My Storyline is taking forever to open. Is there a fix?
This started for me a few weeks ago after I did an update. Usually, my Storyline would take about a minute or so to open and be fully ready to use. But now it takes upwards of 5-10 minutes before it's ready, which is quite frustrating when I have work to do. It is currently fully updated. When I open it, I get the screen below (which looks different from how it used to look) and it just stays like that for the longest time. Not sure what the issue is or how to fix it. Appreciate any advice, thanks.

Hi OBryant,
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand that Storyline is loading very slowly upon opening. The behavior you're describing certainly isn't ideal. Have you tried clearing your browser cache? If that doesn't do the trick, I'd like to connect you with one of our Support Engineers since you're already using the latest version of Storyline. They'll be able to take a closer look at what might be causing this delay!

Yes, I clear my cache fairly regularly but the problem still persists.
Thank you for the update, OBryant! I’d love to know if the lag occurs when opening a new project or an existing one. Also, which version of Storyline 360 are you using? It would be helpful to know when this started as well. Did you recently update and begin noticing this behavior?

Me and my entire team are experiencing this regularly as well. I am curious how clearing a different application's cache has anything to do with opening the storyline application. if it was Rise sure but this is a separate application than any browsers. Is there integration that I'm unaware of?
Hi NateMarshall-91,
Thanks for sharing what you’re seeing here, that definitely sounds frustrating, especially with the increase in load time after the update.
I also see the question around browser cache, and you’re right to pause on that. Since Storyline is a desktop application, browser cache wouldn’t typically affect how quickly it launches.
What’s happening here is more likely tied to something in the local environment or the recent update. A few things that can help narrow it down:
- Try launching Storyline with a new, blank project to see if the delay still occurs.
- Check whether your project files are stored locally versus on a network or synced drive (like OneDrive or SharePoint).
- Running a quick repair of Storyline can help resolve unexpected slowdowns after an update. This guide walks through the steps.
If this started happening across a team at the same time, that’s especially helpful context. In that case, connecting with Support is a great next step so the team can take a closer look at what might have changed with the latest update.
That helps paint a clearer picture of what’s going on and gets you moving toward a fix more quickly.

Hi Eric EricSantos my colleague and I are experiencing the same thing. We have tried your suggestions above and have not been able to resolve this. Are there any updates on how to fix this? Projects do eventually open but they take a very long time.
Hi JillLugg-,
Thanks for following up on this, especially after trying those steps, I can see how the continued delay would be frustrating.
Since this is happening across multiple users and the initial troubleshooting hasn’t resolved it, that’s helpful context. I’m not seeing a broader issue flagged at the moment, so this may be something specific to your environment or setup.
To help narrow things down a bit further, could you confirm:
- Whether the delay happens when opening Storyline itself or only when opening certain project files
- Which version of Storyline you’re currently using (Help → About Storyline)
At this point, connecting with our Support team would be the best next step so they can take a closer look at what’s happening on your machines. If you’re able to share an affected Storyline file and any additional details about your setup, that will help speed up the investigation.
