My video will loop only once

Hello there!

I'm trying to make my video loop indefinitely. When I add the trigger "play Video when Video ends", it will only loop one more time and then it will stop. The video is set to play automatically.

Note: I cannot restart the timeline with a trigger because my other elements would also loop, which I don't want.

I also encountered a second issue: when coming back to this slide, the video will no longer play (not even once). The slide is set to "resume saved state" because I need it to be that way for this specific activity that I have going on, and the trigger "play Video when the timeline starts on this slide" is seemingly not working either.

I am using the Storyline's 64bit latest version.

Could you please help?

Thank you so much in advance!

  • Hello everyone, 🎉

I have some great news to share! We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 91, we’ve included important fixes and new features. One of the bugs we’ve fixed:

    • Videos didn’t loop when designed to do so

Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You’ll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help.

  • Try putting the video on a layer. You can set the Slide Layer Properties to "Reset to initial state" even when the Slide Properties are set to "Resume Saved State."

If that doesn't work, I suggest you upload the .story file, and someone might be able to help. Here are the best practices for uploading that:

    • Only include slides that are related to the problem.
    • Be sure objects, layers, motion paths, and variables have meaningful names.
    • If there is proprietary content, replace or delete it. For example, replace proprietary text with “ipsum lorem” text.

Thank you Judy. Unfortunately, this is not working to fix either of my issues.

I enclosed a .story file, which is only for test purposes.

  • I noticed this behavior a while ago but for some reason I was not thinking of it as a bug even though I knew this trigger suppose to do the trick. My bad for not reporting it on time, and suggesting it to someone else when it was not working. Anyway, to fix this, I created a trigger Show layer "Layer 1" when Video completes. I set the Layer 1 timeline to the shortest time and created a trigger to play the video when the timeline ends on this layer. In Layer 1 properties I checked "Hide slide layer when timeline finishes". I've attached revised version of your .story file. See how that works for you until this bug is fixed.

  • Thank you so much, both of you! The issue with the layers workaround is that I'm already using layers on that same slide. Learners have to click on some shapes to open the layers... the video is my background.

  • in between the last update, and this update, videos are once again no longer looping using the "play media > when media completes" trigger.

      Hi Reilly,

Thanks for following up on this!

We're looking into this bug where the trigger to loop a video fires only once. We'll update this thread as soon as we have a fix, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

      Hi Reilly,

We're really sorry for the trouble this bug has caused, especially as it was thought to be fixed. I've added your voice to the bug report we have open for the regression and will update you as soon as possible. A workaround we've identified is to downgrade your installation to Update 89.
