New in Storyline 360: Video Transcripts
Transcripts don’t just benefit learners who are deaf or hard of hearing—they also aid anyone who needs to learn in a noisy environment, prefers to read, or uses a braille display. Now, Storyline 360 can automatically generate synchronized text transcripts from video closed captions—drastically speeding up your workflow. To find out how this works, head over here: Storyline 360: Video Transcripts.
Once you’ve given it a try we’d love to hear what you think! Please share any feedback or suggestions in the comments below. We’ll be working on enhancements for this feature and want to know if there are areas for improvement or additional functionality that you’d like to see. We’re looking forward to your feedback!

I left feedback in this dedicated post before I saw this, so this is a repeat of that.
There are two things missing that I would want to see before this is useful to us:
- The transcript needs to be clickable. It's a great navigational tool for learners wanting to navigate around the video. People are used to this from places such as EDx and Microsoft Stream so having a non-interactive transcript might confuse some learners.
- There needs to be a variable that we can access easily via triggers, as with closed captions. At the moment the button to turn on a transcript is very small, only appears when you hover over the video and there is no alt-text to explain what it does. I don't think many people will find it, and a good UI shouldn't need its own instruction.
I hope that Articulate can address these points because this has the potential to make video content much more useful to students who require assistive technologies and those without.
Hey Chris!
Thank you for this feedback! I have feature requests around both of those points and will make sure you're included on them.

Having a clickable transcript that navigates to the section clicked would definitely add value that closed captioning does not. I like that suggestion.
Hi Pierre,
I'm happy to chime in! Global Notes formatting is not currently on our feature roadmap, but I'll be sure to update this discussion if our team decides to reroute.
I'm also glad to hear that you appreciate the changes to our updates review process! Please don't hesitate to connect with our support team if you have other feedback and concerns regarding this.

Thanks Ange CM,
Sounds as if it would work. I could have also recorded the VO right in the video editing software (Abode Premiere) which was used to edit the video in the first place, and which would have been no more difficult or time consuming than recording it in Storyline. But I would have needed to know to do that, which I do now.
And such is the value of these forums: To talk shop with others and determine what we coulda/shoulda done that would have made out work easier and/or our product better.

This is a great new feature! I think video transcripts are very useful and helpful for learners who want to review the content, access captions, or search for keywords.

If I have full transcripts/scripts written out, plus audio recordings- given this, it should really be possible to have storyline match the existing text script based on the auto-detection of captions. What is the most time efficient way to add closed captioning, given that we have everything I should need to quickly and simply put this together? It seems despite having everything already created, I'll still need to manually paste all the text in, caption by caption??

This might sound an odd request, but could imported or generated text-to-speech audio files also have a local player control which would include the transcript button along with play/pause etc?
That way a page could have an introduction audio that users could control (not using the main Storyline player control bar at the bottom) and read a transcript.
Hi Hugh! Thank you for trying out the feature, and I'll get this feedback recorded and entered into a feature request.

Does this feature also work if we publish the module as a video? Will closed captions still be an option in a mp4 generated by articulate? Thanks
Hello Kay!
Yes! You can add closed captions and have them displayed in the published video. We have a tutorial that explains this: Storyline 360: Closed Captions for Video Projects

Is there any planning for the ability to download the transcript. This would be helpful particularly for learners with any kind of a reading disability. Thanks
Hi Nancy,
Thanks so much for your interest in keeping things accessible for your learners.
Are you looking for a way to download the video transcript to share with learners or are you thinking of a way to create a transcript document that your learners could download right from the course? You might consider exporting captions if you’ve already added those to your video. This would also help you create a transcript for your learners to download, and then attach it to the slide with the video. If you go this route, you’ll need an Open File Trigger too.
If you were looking to accomplish something different, just let us know! We’re happy to help.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
