Score is reported to the LMS before the final Result Slide

I'm working on a Storyline 360 course with three separate module assessments. Each module uses a question bank and presents a set of random questions. After each module, I only want to display a Pass/Fail message without sending the score to the LMS. The learner's overall score should be calculated and reported only after all three modules are completed and they reach the final Result Slide.

To do this, I removed the Submit Results trigger from the three module Result Slides and kept it only on the final Result Slide. However, when I test the course in SCORM Cloud, the learner's score is still being sent to the LMS after completing the second module, even though they haven't reached the final Result Slide.

Is this expected behavior in Storyline 360? If so, is there a supported way to prevent the score from being sent to the LMS until the learner reaches the final Result Slide?

  • You don't really need to remove the submit results trigger, but you should check to see which quiz is being tracked in your LMS. It sounds like maybe the second quiz is the option that is set in your tracking. When you go to the Publish window and choose LMS/LRS, in the Tracking properties, which quiz results slide is the one being sent to the LMS? If you select multiple tracking options, SCORM Cloud/your LMS is going to use whatever happens first.

If your final results slide is combining all of the results of the other quizzes, then your final Results Slide should be configured as a "Combined Results" slide .

      Thanks for your response.

I have already configured LMS tracking to use only the Final Result slide.

My course contains four Result Slides. The first three Result Slides are used only to display Pass/Fail feedback, and each one tracks its respective module assessment. The fourth (Final Result) slide is configured to combine the results from the three assessments, with an overall passing score of 70%, and it is the only Result Slide selected for LMS reporting.

The learner is allowed to continue with the course even if they fail an individual module assessment. What I'm seeing is that after completing the first module, no score is reported to the LMS, which is expected. However, after completing the second module, SCORM Cloud starts displaying the learner's cumulative score, even though the learner has not yet completed the third assessment or reached the final Result Slide.

My expectation is that the LMS should not receive or display any score until the learner reaches the final Result Slide. Is this expected Storyline behavior, or is there a supported way to delay score reporting until the final Result Slide is completed?

Only the second of three modules? It could certainly be a bug, but it sounds as if there's a trigger somewhere in there that you haven't found that sends data to the LMS.

  • The course contains three modules, and learners can start with any module from the branching screen, so there isn't a fixed sequence.

I initially thought it might be a trigger issue as well, so I thoroughly checked the project. I removed the Submit Results triggers from all three intermediate Result Slides and confirmed that only the Final Result slide is selected for LMS tracking.
