State Not Changing on Layers

Storyline and I are not friends this week. :D I have created a normal state and a Talking 2 state for a Character on a layer. I want the character's state to change when the timeline reaches 4s.

Trigger: When the timeline reaches time 0m 4s set state of Grace to Talking 2. Nothing happens.

I tried to set state of Grace to Talking 2 when an object enters, nothing happens.

Any thoughts or ideas?

TIA

Sarah

  • Based on just the description, it sounds like the trigger should work. It's possible the slide is corrupted. You could try recreating it.

Otherwise, troubleshooting is just guessing without seeing the .story file. If you upload it, someone might be able to solve the issue.

Here are the best practices for uploading a .story file:

    • Only include slides that are related to the problem.
    • Be sure objects, layers, motion paths, and variables have meaningful names.
    • If there is proprietary content, replace or delete it. For example, replace proprietary text with “ipsum lorem” text.
  • Hi, SarahVaughan-0c!

As JudyNollet stated, it would be helpful to see your file. If you're not comfortable sharing it in the community, please feel free to upload it privately in a support case. Our Support Engineers will be happy to take a closer look and delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.

  • Hi, here is the slide with the layers. Michael, Anna, and Grace layers should all of their avatars change at certain points on their timelines. I'm sure it's something silly. Thanks for looking into it.

  • SarahVaughan-0c : The triggers work. I saw the Grace character change to the talking state. However, I had to wait 4 secs

I assume the other triggers also work. However, I didn't bother testing the other characters, because the triggers to change them don't happen for >20 seconds

  • I wonder why they don't work for me then. I retested them and nothing happens. Perhaps it's because I'm using the play button on the bottom of the slide rather than the preview button. I'll test that next. Regardless... Thank you for your time. I greatly appreciate it.
