Storyline bug: Audio files getting "mixed up" !
Hi,
For the last couple months I've been getting a very puzzling issue with Storyline.
I work on .story files with voiceovers and character dialogues in every slide. While previewing a slide from the timeline, everything seems fine... But, when using the Preview mode, suddenly the audio files will be completely mixed up, with audio files from completely different slides playing instead of the correct one. It seems to happen completely randomly.
This is very troubling because when publishing as Review or as SCORM, audios will be mixed up and the course unwatchable. In the Storyline timeline, if I double click on one of the problematic audio files to try to edit it, the wrong audio is instead displayed in the editor.
Currently, the fix that I've found is to install a different version of storyline. This usually settles everything back into place... Until it happens again. I've been going back and forth between versions a lot due to this.
My question is, has anyone else encountered something like this?
We tried to understand the issue with Articulate Support but frankly this bug doesn't seem to have rhyme or reason. It happens even when working only with local files. And it's such a time waster đź«
Cheers

I have never encountered the issues described in your post. Could you share an example or a simplified .story file with this issue so someone can troubleshoot it for you? There's also a possibility that some of the audio files got corrupted along the way. Again, it’s really hard to pinpoint the issue without seeing the file.

I am facing exactly the same issue. I think the problem might be related to the media library.
This is the error message I receive when opening some of the embedded audio files:
However, when I open the same audio file a second time, it plays without any issues.
The exported version also fails to play the “missing” files or plays files from different slides or layers.
Hello SarunasZ,
Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. I find it strange that you have to open the file twice to successfully open it. If you're already working locally when making changes to your project file, please share a copy of your project file here or privately by opening a support case so we can investigate what's happening. We'll delete it when we're done testing!

I'm also having this issue. Is it a bug with the latest version of Storyline? Did anyone find a fix for this?

In my case, the original Storyline file was created using Storyline 3, and I used Storyline 360. This issue was resolved with the latest Storyline update.
Hello SarunasZ,
Thanks for sharing the details of your case with Robert in this thread! It's always helpful for folks who come across similar in the future!
Have a great afternoon!
Hello ChelseaHardman,
I want to confirm that our team resolved a bug where audio files behaved erratically. To take advantage of the fix, you'll want to be sure you're running the latest version of Storyline 360 (Update 98)!
If you are working locally and still running into this issue, we'd be happy to take a closer look at your project with this thread or privately in a support case.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

It's definitely not linked to the latest version of Storyline, as I've been getting this bug since October 2024. Still no fix at all, even when working locally, and after uninstalling and reinstalling Storyline totally, I still get this bug frequently. The only workaround I have is to uninstall and reinstall Storyline, until it starts happening again.
Hello GalleHibon-a948,
Happy to help!
Do any of your audio files have the same file names? Or do they all have unique file names? I'd like to test your project file to see if I can identify anything that could possibly be causing the behavior. Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or privately by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

Hi everyone,
Just checking in to see if there have been any updates on this issue. We're still experiencing the same audio problems,
either the beginning of the audio doesn't play unless we replay it after completion, or sections are overlapping. This happens both on the review link and in the final SCORM export.
If anyone has found a workaround or fix, we’d really appreciate your help! Thanks in advance!
Hello NewLeafTech,
Thanks for reaching out! Do any of your audio files have the same file name? I'm also curious if you experience this when previewing your course in Storyline.
It would be helpful to test your project file. You can share your .story file in this thread or privately in a support case.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
