Why doesn't the timeline playback head scrub the current frames of the presentation? Why can I not see an instantaneous image of my presentation without playback???? Why does a software that costs this much not include the simplest non-linear editing functions??? Can anyone explain why this ubiquitous editing function is not present! It's in every video, audio and animation editing platform that is used in the market! Including Flash, which their website requires in order to submit forms! Am I missing something?

Hi Ian, Hm, I'm able to just click and keep holding my mouse as I drag over the others. I use a real mouse, not a touch pad - although doubt that would make a difference? As far as the design, I'm not a UX designer nor on our product development team, so I wouldn't want to weigh in on the why regarding design. I will share the information here in the form of a feature request with our Product team about how it's difficulty for you and others to work with this set up. As far as the playback lag, that is something we've shared with our team in the form of a bug report and although there have been incremental improvements with recent updates of Storyline it's still an outstanding issue that they continue to investigate. I'll be sure this thread is included in that report so that I can update you here once there is additional information to share from our team.

Ditto to everything Ian said. I put in a feature request today to allow us to scrub the timeline. As Ian states this is BASIC and has been requested for at least 3 years. SUPER frustrating that this isn't a possibility - trying to preview the slide and go back to sync up is incredibly inaccurate and inefficient. This alone makes me want to pursue other software if I need to sync a timeline.

And to follow up... IF a user is relegated to SHOW/HIDE to see what they're working on.... AT LEAST allow for continuous click motion along the SHOW/HIDE icons! Come on already! This is grade school UI stuff. What a waste of editing time.

Hi Ian, Thanks for reaching out here, and it looks like you're new in the community, so welcome to E-Learning Heroes! If you're looking to preview a slide and see the realtime updates, I'd recommend using the Preview button in the top ribbon and choosing to just preview that slide. I know that can be difficult if trying to then sync particular elements on the slide with other timeline items such as audio or appearance of objects, and that feedback is something we've shared with our Product development team and our QA team. You're also invited to share feedback with our team using our Feature request form here. As far as selecting to show/hide more than one item at a time, I am able to click on the "eye" icon and drag up or down to be able to select/unselect more than one at a time. Is that what you meant by continuous click motion? Additionally if you need any other assistance, we're happy to assist here in the community forums where you'll get help from staff and other community members - but you're also free to reach out to our Support Engineers using this form as they're available 24/7.

Thanks Ashley. I don't seem to have that same continuous click functionality. Still, I can't understand why the "jumble" workspace is a preferred programing choice over a "momentary" workspace, or at least offering the option to choose between the two editing "styles". Any feedback on that would be appreciated. Maybe I am missing some important rationale. I encourage, with gravity, the inclusion of such a very very standard feature in further developed versions. Currently one has to work four times as hard to accomplish the same task. By "hiding" all unwanted objects, then blindly syncing the intended ones, then previewing, then unhiding the other objects, then previewing again... and that's only if the sync worked! Multiply that by three or four and you have >12x inefficiency. I hope this makes sense. Furthermore, I am regularly experiencing a playback lag between the time I hit play and the moment it starts playing. Similarly lag occurs when "too much editing" has been going on. Is this to be expected...Tolerated? Running Windows 10 (64) on 8 gig memory and 4 core intel processor, SSD drive. Don't think it's the computer. Best, Ian

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the follow-up. To share some additional context, it’s our normal process to run new features through beta testing with users and refine it based on feedback before release.

Because this process varies for each feature, we don’t share a specific release date. The Feature Roadmap is constantly being updated for new features, so keep an eye on it as we continue to line out what’s in store for 2021.

Regarding the timeline scrub, that’s not on our radar quite yet, but we’re still tracking it and prioritizing it alongside other features. I'll be sure to include your plus one with our report.

Thanks for the update Ren - such as it is.
For my part, I see little if any "constant" updates regarding new features on the roadmap (for Storyline) - and what is there currently other than the 360 image functionality that people have been crying out for years for (and was promised to finally be delivered last year), is scant at best. I do think a look at what your competitors offer (and have offered for quite some time) would be a good idea. I would be interested to read what others think.

My god, timeline scrubbing would by far, be the best feature enhancement EVER. I really miss that from the FLASH authoring system. Add keyframes and I would be a customer for life!

I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 66, we’ve included important fixes and new features.

One of the features we’ve included is:

Scrub the timeline to quickly see when timed elements appear and disappear on the stage without previewing the entire slide.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.
