Accessibility: Audio for Labeled Graphic in Rise

Apr 18, 2024

Hi,

I added audio clips to about 9 markers for a labeled graphic, and I love it! Regarding accessibility, should I add the same text to the marker label, or would it be better to provide a transcript for download? I kind of don't love the idea of the text and audio in the marker label, but I think it might be the easiest solution.

Any thoughts from the accessibility experts?

Hello Kandice,

Happy to help. I appreciate you for working hard to make your content accessible!

I'm not an accessibility expert, but I know that the key to making audio elements accessible is to give learners text-based alternatives. You are correct that for labeled graphics with audio, one way to add the text-based option is to put it in the marker label. Providing a downloadable transcript is another way to do it.

I'd put the corresponding text on the marker label as it is the simplest and most convenient for the learner. But then again, it depends on your design, as both options will satisfy the accessibility requirements. Let me know if you have additional questions.

Enjoy your weekend ahead, and happy developing. 🙂
