Subtitling available for videos in Rise?

Oct 02, 2018

Hello,

I researched this a bit and think I know the answer but wanted to double-check. Can videos that are inserted directly into Rise be subtitled?

Thanks!

There is no built-in option to add cc to videos that are directly imported into RISE. The suggested workaround is subtitling the video in Storyline and then use a Storyline Block to get it into Rise. I guess you could also import the vid into Storyline, manually add the cc, publish as a video and then add that video to RISE.

I actually did a demo of this and recorded a tutorial using SL blocks to host the video.

Here's a video tutorial that shows two ways.

Demo: Example of 2 options.

  1. Create a story file the same dimensions as the video
  2. Insert the video
  3. Import the caption file for the video into Storyline or create the captions
  4. Adjust the storyline player so there's no player features and it's almost chromeless.
  5. Insert into Rise using a Storyline block.

Extra tips:

  1. Set the video to not autostart
  2. I'd put a hotspot over the video with the player so that the user can't click and stop the video.
