I really like the interaction you created here. This is a really good way to do a mini-tutorial for someone who may already be familiar with this form, or something to accompany a training course that explains the form and the various reasons for checking this or that checkbox or field on the form in more detail.
Thanks, Amanda! Yes, as David's saying - SnagIt or equivalent works. After many years of using SnagIt it started perpetually crashing and snarling my system, so last year I moved to using open-source, free Greenshot for captures and it's what I use all the time. I recently explained it and linked to it here: http://www.jackievannice.com/?p=175069330
Thanks, Jackie and David! I use SnagIt now and I still feel like my screenshots aren't quite as nice, but I'll play with the settings a bit. I'll also check out Greenshot and see if that works any better for me.
Thanks again for sharing your work!
Taking crisp, clear screenshots is fairly easy using a tool like Snagit. I have even been able to take very clear screen shots using the Snipping Tool that comes with Windows. You just have to be very careful and capture only the area of the window that you really need, rather than the whole thing. If you do need a whole form like the one in this tutorial, you can screen shot the form in sections and then piece it together using GIMP or Photoshop.
Hi Taylor! Most of the time I'm using sound effects from a pack Mike Enders and Kevin Thorn mentioned in a class a few years ago. Here's the link: http://www.soundeffectpack.com
Does anyone know of a way to get the slides in Articulate to appear as portrait instead of landscape? I have a rather lengthy photo that fits better as portrait than as landscape. When I shrink it to the slide, it gets rather scrunched up, and I'm still getting the hang of using the zoom tool. Thank you. : )
Thank you, Elizabeth!
By the way, I just made this one over in Storyline 2 using a slider to navigate the form: http://www.jackievannice.com/?p=175070047
Jackie, I loved your interaction and thank you for sharing the link to the sound effects which I've just downloaded! :-)
This might sound like a really stupid question, but how did you get the typed answers in the form to appear gradually, as if they actually were being typed?
Sorry if this is really basic :-/
You're welcome, Nuala! Have fun with your new audio insta-library. I can't imagine a question that would be too basic - and your animation question is quite timely!
For this example (created in Storyline 1) I used a fade animation on every one of those itty bitty text boxes and brought them in gradually, each one entering at a different point on the timeline. Funnily enough, just today I posted a makeover of this demo in Storyline 2, and because it has more built-in animation options I was able to use a wipe animation and set it to wipe left to right. It's a big improvement over the fade animation. I talked about redoing the animation at the end of today's post: http://www.jackievannice.com/?p=175070047
Aww thank you - that sounds so obvious now when you say it but I was racking my brain trying to work out how you did it lol
Your interaction has really fired up my enthusiasm now for some drab courses that I could try to freshen up, so thanks again! :-)
This is incredible -- Love it! When I read how you did the "typing" animation, it gave me another great reason for our company to invest in Storyline 2!!!
I love this! We have the need to build training for how to use software systems, completing form applications and creating site accounts, so this really has inspired me to think how I can create something interactive and fun. E-Learning design has just fallen into my lap at work, so I am throwing myself into researching every how-to.
Ida, that's exactly what I was looking for inspiration for as well. I work for a software company and am looking for ideas on fun ways to complete data fields!!! Thank you, Jackie, for providing such an outstanding sample. My developer and I love it!!!
I know this was posted months ago, but I just saw it. I just had to comment on how creative and cool this is! Like others, I deal primarily with software applications training. I'm always looking for new ways to present the "data fields." This was such an inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing!
You're welcome, Elaine! I'm so glad if it helps. I'm in the middle of a software training project right now, too - and if this subject matter doesn't push us to be more creative I don't know what would. :)
Thanks so much for your comments! You've brightened my software-training-project day.
