Articulate Presenter plugin crashing when publishing

Jul 17, 2014

Hi, I have been using Articulate Presenter for several weeks now. I have had a few issues with the plugin locking up when using the audio synch utility but yesterday I started experiencing crashes when I try to publish a unit of learning. I have been publishing units without issue for several weeks and all units contain exactly the same mix of bitmap images, flash animations and audio. A few seconds after I click publish I get the error report below, not terribly helpful no error code to at least point me towards a reason or solution for the crash. The last thing I did before experiencing these problems was to import and synch the audio for the slides. so far I have removed all the audio files but the issue persists. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Derek,

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

First, it may help to know whether or not this is happening for a specific course, or a specific set of projects. If you haven't already, please try creating a new project in Presenter '13. Add some "filler" test content, and attempt to publish.

If you see the same issues when publishing, it may be the location of the files or the installation.

If you do not see the same issues when publishing, it may be an issue of corruption with the project(s).

I recommend confirming that you have a supported version of Office and PowerPoint installed:

Articulate Studio '13 requires a 32-bit desktop version of Microsoft Office. It won't work with:

  • 64-bit versions of Office
  • Browser-based (online) components of Office 365
  • Click-to-run versions of Office 2010

Note: Visual Basic for Applications must be installed. It's part of the typical Office setup. If it wasn't included in your installation, here's how to install it.

Here's how to tell which desktop version of Office you have.

If the issue continues, please try the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article:

The Articulate Tab on the PowerPoint Ribbon Is Missing

(This should also resolve an unresponsive Articulate Ribbon)

Also, please make sure that you're working with local project files:

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

If that doesn't fix the problem, please try repairing Studio '13:

Articulate Support - How to Repair Articulate Studio '13

If you've determined that it may be file-specific, please consider sharing an Articulate Package with us. Please keep in mind that if the file size exceeds 20 MB, you may not be able to attach it to this thread. If that's the case, please let me know. We can discuss other options for sharing the file.

If this happens in any project and all of the suggestions above don't resolve the issue, we can continue troubleshooting the installation.

Please let me know how it goes!

Best,

Christine

Thanks so much for the comprehensive reply. I have determined that the issue is only occuring with a specific unit. And despite stripping out all of the content it still will not publish, leading me to assume that somehow the file has become corrupt. I will post an Articulate Package, however my dept is in the midst of a location change so it will be after the weekend before I can post it.

Hi Derek,

I just wanted to check in with you and see how things are going with the project. I totally understand if you're unable to test due to the location change, but please let me know if I can help with this when you're able to revisit the issue.

Hopefully, everything's working for you now - but if not, I'm more than happy to help.

Thanks very much!

Christine
