Articulate Studio and App-V

Oct 28, 2012

I am trying to create an App-V package of Articulate Studio, and cannot get the encoders to work to be able to preview or publish content within Powerpoint 2010 on Windows 7 (32-bit).

When I open Powerpoint, the Articulate add-in loads successfully.

I click on "Articulate" in the menu bar

Click Start Annotation and add any type of annotation (e.g. a Check).

Click Save and Close.

Click Preview or Publish

And none of the annotations appear, and I suspect it's because the directshow encoder isn't registered properly.

Is there any kind of command-line I can run or registry key modification I an apply to get this working?

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Aaron! Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing difficulties with the annotations. There's a few things we can try to resolve the problem.

First, what browser are you currently using to preview or view the published file? If you're able to, please make sure you're using the most recent release of the browser. If you need help finding this information, just let me know.

Also, you may want to check your current version of Flash. You can do so by visiting this page. Not only will this page show you what version you're running, it will also tell you the current version available for your browser. If you're not using the most recent release, you may want to download the latest version of Flash.

Also, are you able to view other presentations with annotations?

If you've checked the information above and it's still not displaying the annotations properly, let me know.

Thanks!

Christine

Hi, Christine.

Thanks for the welcome.  The problem is occuring on Internet Explorer 8 with Adobe Flash 11.3.300.271, so it's quite a recent version.  Because we're using this on a corporate network, it's not possible to use IE9, but it doesn't appear to be an issue with IE anyway, because playback is fine of other presentations with annotations.

It's just the encoding (publishing/previewing) where it's a problem, and I'm not sure what else I can do next to see if the flash encoder is properly configured.

Thanks

Good morning Aaron!

Thanks for the additional information! It may be a simple issue with DPI, if it's just occurring during the publishing and previewing.

Here's some information on checking your DPI:

Presenter ’09 will function as expected using 96 DPI. If your system’s DPI is set to 120 this can cause erratic behavior using Presenter ’09 and is not supported by Articulate.

The following symptoms may occur using 120 DPI.

  • Elements of the application appear misplaced or distorted.
  • The Preview displays misplaced or distorted elements.
  • The published output is distorted or does not display correctly.
  • Annotations do not line up correctly when you publish or preview.
  • Logo does not display correctly.

To change your system DPI to 96:

Windows 7:

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display.
  2. From the left navigation panel, select Set custom text size (DPI).
  3. From the Scale to this percentage of normal size drop-down list, select 100%.
  4. Click the OK button.

Please try the steps above and let me know if there's any change with the annotations.

Thanks!

Christine
