Bizarre problem with Studio'13 player settings.

Mar 10, 2014

Folks,

I republished one of our e-learning modules using Studio'13 Presenter.  The module was previously published using Studio'09 Presenter.  In the published output, text ( LESSON 3 - STRUCTURES - see screenshot below ) is being shown in the 'Topbar Left' area of the display, which I did not enter and which I am unable to remove.

The player properties dialog does not, apparently, allow this text to be edited?  Also, even if I untick the box next to the text, it still shows up in the published output and, when I go back into the player properties dialog, the box is ticked.

How do I make this text disappear?  I have tried everything I can think of, but to no avail.  Any suggestions are welcome.

Regards.

Willie.

Hi Leslie,

There are no embedded quizzes in the module, though there are a total of 6 ENGAGE interactions.  The problem manifests itself, though on EVERY slide in the module, so I fail to see how it could be related to any of the interactions?

Again, the problem is that there is text in the 'Topbar Left' field within the Player settings which [1] I did not put there and [2] I cannot remove or disable.

Firstly, I need a mechanism to permanently remove or disable that text.

Secondly, I need to understand how it got there so that I can prevent the issue from recurring.

Thanks.

Willie.

Hi Leslie,

Hello again.  Please disregard my earlier post.  I read through it again just now and, on the second reading, it finally occurred to me what you were trying to tell me.

I do not know exactly how it happened, but I somehow inadvertently added a player tab to the module during the conversion process from Studio'09 to Studio'13.  I have now removed that tab and republished the module.  As you would expect, the 'Topbar Left' text has disappeared.

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

Willie.

I'm having a similar issue.

I'm running Articulate Studio 13 on Office 13 32 bit.

I began the project in which I'm having the issue in Studio 09 and converted it to 13 when I got the upgrade.

Here's the issue:

I will eventually have three elements that you canre-arrange in the Presenter Player through the “Features”— Copyright,Glossary, and Resources (Copyright and Glossary are Engage Player Tabs). I currently have two of them installed—Copyright andResources. When I move the Copyright Player tab to the Top Right, instead ofthe default Top Left, it doesn’t stick when I  preview the course, publish it, or save, close, and re-open the course.

Also, when I try to Save the Player or do a Save As on thePlayer, in that Player dialogue window, it moves the Copyright back to thatdefault position. It just will not stick where I want it to be.

Finally, random Engage and Quizmaker interactions within the course will end up in the Features, Topbar Left, much like Willie encountered here. Yes, they are in the Player tabs, but I didn't put them there, and they usually replace the Copyright Player tab I DO want there. Even when I remove the random, unwanted Player tab and replace it with the wanted Copyright Player tab, I still have the alignment issue in the Player Features.

I’ve found on the forums that a similar issue was supposed tohave been corrected with the update 2 that I just had installed, butapparently it hasn’t???

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Todd

Thanks, Leslie. This is very frustrating.

A little more information in case it helps:

  • The course is broken into 4 lessons. Lesson 1 does not seem to be having any problems, and it does have the other Player tab installed (the Engage Glossary). So there are three Features on the top of the Player, all sticking in Top Right.
  • I copied and pasted the Copyright Player tab from another project, and then copied it into Lessons 1 through 4 (in separate folders). I made sure to navigate to the correct folder when inserting the Copyright Player tab into each lesson, though.
  • I am working on my local drive, although I recently packaged and moved all of my lessons there from a network drive.
  • I work from home and remote into my PC.

Thanks again.

Todd

Hi Todd!

The issue with the tabs not remaining in the top right position is not resolved at this time. Our QA Team is investigating this issue and as I mentioned before, I have no timeline on this issue.

If there is something else that needs to be addressed, you are more than welcome to share your files with us by creating a package and submitting here.

Do you know if they stay in the top left position? Is it just that top right position causing fits?

Getting the items to stay in the top right position is the issue I was referring to. I am not aware of issues in the top left position.

Actually, now I have a top left problem. Lessons 2 through 4 of my course will stay in the top left position only, while Lesson 1 will stay in the top right position only. At least they are staying--but I will have an inconsistency from Lesson 1 to the other lessons.

FYI I have two player tabs now--Glossary (Engage Interaction) and Resources.
