Changing navigation scheme per slide

I am wondering if you are able to change the user navigation at the slide level (or is it only at full presentation level?)

For example, we are creating an e-learning course and are thinking of having some slides with left navigation, and some slides with either just the next button/arrow or no navigation at all and just have hyperlink buttons on slides for branching or hopping purposes.
