Comparison of AP SCORM tracking in Moodle 2.x and in scorm cloud

Nov 29, 2012

Hi!

I was testing AP '09 scorm 1.2 tracking behavior on Moodle 2.2 recently and found out that tracking is working only if user close the lesson by clicking on exit button in AP lesson. If he clicks any button or link in Moodle interface or closes the tab or browser window, lesson will not get completed status although user went through all slides and lesson should be completed. This wasn't the case with previous versions of Moodle. In Moodle 1.9 tracking was working almost fine, no matter how user exits the lesson. UI said "almost" because we still struggle with occasional cases where AP lesson gets stuck in incomplete status in Moodle 1.9 although he went through all slides several times.

I tested the same lesson in scorm cloud (scorm.com) and found out that AP lesson is behaving completely different there, although I used exactly the same, identical SCORM 1.2 lesson. As soon as user opens the last slide, lesson gets completed status, even before the user closes the leson (or browser window).

In both cases, I set the LMS to open the lesson in the same window because  browser freeses occessionaly when opening AP lessons in new window in any version of Moodle. Freeses happen rarely in IE9 + Moodle 2.x combination but it happens and it is not acceptable in production environment.

I went through a ton of forum posts on moodle.org about these issues, opened several cases on Articulate support and did a lot of troubleshooting myself to solve them but I wandered into a blind alley.

All my testings were in IE 7,8 and 9 because most of our clients have policies to use IE only.

To summarise  the issues I'm struggling with for a long time:

1. Moodle 1.9 - occasional random cases where AP lesson gets stuck in incomplete status in Moodle 1.9 although he went through all slides several times

2. All Moodle versions - browser freeses occessionaly when opening AP lessons in a new window.

3. Moodle 2.2 - tracking is working only if user closes the lesson by clicking on exit button in AP lesson

Any similar issues, thoughts, considerations, etc...?
