File Path Length

Aug 20, 2014

General question that I probably already know the answer to: Is there anyway to shorten the length of the file path of a published course besides opening it on the desktop and shortening the title of the course before publishing?

If not, is there some kind of technical reason why the published Articulate files have such a long file path length? I know someone who is trying to open a file I have created and is having trouble sometimes with the file because the file path is so long . . . so I'm trying to give them a specific reason why the file path lengths are so long. Or explain that this is something that Articulate is working on for future versions.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi Kyle!

This is controlled by the directory that you choose and the file name.

Our documentation states:

Be sure the file paths to your projects and published output are well under the 260-character limit imposed by Microsoft Windows. (Publishing adds characters to the file path you selected. If it exceeds 260 characters, your published output will be incomplete.)

Avoid using special characters, accents, or symbols in your file paths and file names. Learn more about naming conventions in this Microsoft article.
