FLV doesn't play

Feb 20, 2013

Hey everyone,

Before posting this, I read old posts on this topic and tried several possible fixes suggested:

  • Putting in on the local c drive
  • Making it a web object (couldn't quite figure that one out)
  • Checked it's format (it's flv so AS2 or AS3 doesn't apply, rights?)

The problem is similar to what others stated. It gives me a white screen after it's published.

Help would be appreciated.

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for listing the steps you've already taken to troubleshoot this. However, can you give us a little more information about how you're viewing the content? Is the FLV not playing when you preview, or after you've published?

If you've published, make sure you're not viewing the published output locally. If you view a published Presenter '09 presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published.

Hi Christine,

I was viewing publishing it to CD and was viewing the publication after publishing. Because of your suggestion, this time I copied the folder to a USB and launched it there. Same problem. The video displays on the initial popup for inserting the flash movie and I get the black placeholder screen, but it doesn't show up when I preview or when I publish.

Hi Jamie,

Placing the published content on a USB drive may actually cause more issues, instead of resolving them. I know that's a bit confusing, but hopefully we can find out what's causing this.

If the video doesn't show up when previewing, that may be a reason to be concerned about the original FLV. Does it play on its own, outside of Storyline? If so, are you able to share the .FLV file here? You can attach it to this thread by using the paperclip icon in your response.

Alternatively, if you'd like to keep the files private, you can submit them to our support team for testing.

You'll be able to attach the .STORY file on the second page of the following form:
