Highlighting in the Nav Bar for Hidden Slides

Searched around a bit, but couldn't find what I was looking for, maybe the forum can help me!

In our course we would like to have a highlighted slide in the navigation bar even when the user has moved forward to a "hidden slide."

For example, slide 1 is displayed (level 1) but slides 2&3 are hidden, then slides 4 until the end of the course are visible again . When the user moves past slide 1 can we still leave slide 1 highlighted in the navigation until they exit out of slide 3?

I realize the slides are hidden and should not be highlighted in the navigation, but instead of us moving all of the animations to a single slide it's easier for us to keep them separate. Just curious if there's a workaround.
