IE script error when using Web Objects

Mar 31, 2011

Hi. I need some help:

I've built a course (AICC) using Presenter '09 and am using Web Objects - referencing a .swf on the same server as the course resides.  I keep getting this error:

I've obscured the path just for security.  I'm Windows 7 (and Vista) using IE 8.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Dave and welcome to Heroes,

Being that you're getting an access denied message, it sounds like the server isn't recognizing that you're logged in and is preventing access to that particular file.  Another possibility is that the course is accessed via an HTTPS url and you're trying to load a file from a HTTP url.  This could cause an issue with your server.

Can you replicate the issue in Firefox?  Also, what happens if you try to access that SWF directly from your server by typing in the URL into your browser?

Thanks so much Brian.   You response was very helpful.

After following your lead on the access issue, here's what I did to solve the problem: I noticed that the previous developer used Web Objects to simply pull in a SWF and that SWF didn't reference a webpage or anything that prevented me from simply importing the SWF into the page.   In learning more about Web Objects, I see that it is primarily used for websites or other online resources and that's not what and that's not what these interactions called for...they were simple rollover animations or othe learning games (e.g., matching).

Lesson learned for me...thanks again Brian for your reply.
