Importing audio not working

Jul 26, 2011

Hi all,

I've set up a workstation with Presenter and tried to import audio into the powerpoint.

It looked like it was working just fine...when we hit OK it said "processing audio" but when we when we went back in to import more audio files they were not in the list. We were working off the C drive on the work station.

When I moved the powerpoint and the voice over files to my computer's C drive and perfomed the exact same functions it worked ok and when I went back into the Import audio to add more files they were all there.

Just wondering if anyone knows why it would work on my computer and not the other?

Hi Brandy,

Can you try the solution in the link below to see if that resolves the issue?

If you still have issues, install the K-Lite Codec Pack Full (accept all default installation options during the installation process):

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

After installing the Codec Pack, restart your computer & then attempt to reimport the audio.

Brian,

A coule of weeks ago you offered me solutions to my problem. When I changed the project.log file to project.log.bak on the workstation it fixed the problem. Thanks!

But now all of a sudden my computer has quit importing audio files. I changed project.log to project.log.bak on my computer and it didn't fix the problem. Now I'm trying to download the k-lite codec (full) and each site I go to get it from all gives me the same response.

Do you have any other recommendations?

Brian,

I was able to download the k-lite codec full with Firefox but Articulate still won't import any more of my audio into the presentation.

I had a previous version of this package with all the audio imported. It was published and sent out to SME's for testing. There were some changes made to content that called for a new Revision # for the package but all the audio still fit with the new material and no slides were added. So, I needed to import all the audio again since it was lost with the revision change. I got most of the way through importing it when it stopped saving the imports all of a sudden.

I've got 3 projects that need audio imported at this time so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Brandy

Hi Brandy,

I would suggest you submit a case by following the steps below.

Please create an Articulate Presenter package, then upload the zip file to our server. You can review how to do this here:

Send to Articulate Presenter Package – Articulate Presenter ’09 Help

Upload the resulting zip file from your computer to our server using this upload form:

Articulate Support - Upload Your Files for Review

Please be sure to include a description of your issue, your version of PowerPoint, version of Windows and version of Presenter '09 which you can find in Help and Support -> About Articulate Presenter. Please also include the URL for this thread so we can follow up with you in the forums.

Great, I've got to get all this together and get it uploaded, but just to let you know, after my last response I went into one of the other presentations that needed audio imported and it worked just fine, so it looks like it is a file issue.

Thanks for all your help so far, and I'll wait to hear from you once I get this uploaded.

I submitted the case and when I got the presentation back all they told me was they got it to work on their end. No explanation as to why it wasn't working on my end or other solutions I could try. I was quite upset about the fact that they just said they fixed it but offered no solutions as to how I could fix it myself. If I had this problem with more presentations what was I to do...send every one I work on to them to fix for me...I think not. ---I let it go at the time b/c I was swamped but now I'm going in and verifying answers to my posts.

One good thing. When I got it back from them...all the audio was GONE. I went in and had to reinsert my audio and when I did that it all went in just fine...no issues. I haven't had the same problem with just 1 or 2 audio files not wanting to insert...so I'm glad about that.

I have had the issue with all the audio being dumped like it was when I got it back from the service desk...like in Jeb's post here: http://community.articulate.com/forums/t/5325.aspx

but that's more of an annoyance than anything.

Just wanted to follow up in case others were having the same issue and were looking to this thread for a solution...there's not one here.

Hi Brandy,

I apologize for the lack of information that was provided in the support case.  Essentially, here's how the issue was resolved:

1.  Open the presentation

2.  Publish it to the web

3.  Save the presentation and close PowerPoint

These steps will regenerate the PPTA file and remove any corruption that may be in the file.

After that, simply reopen the presentation, reimport the audio, and see if you can replicate the issue.

Vira sent you the fixed file and then asked you several questions regarding replicating the issue on the new file.  When you have time, can you try the steps that she recommended and let her know what happened.  This will help us determine if the issue is caused by a system issue or corruption with a particular file.

Thanks for the reply Brian. I was so swamped at the time all I cared about was getting it fixed and out and getting on to the next "Major" project they gave to me...3 weeks to complete 8 presentations, have them tested, and issued to the site. I'm not having the issue any more...It was just that one file and once I got it back and reimported all the audio it worked fine, so I can't replicate the issue. I didn't have time to work with Vira at the time because of the crunch, so once it worked I just dropped it.

I'm sure it was corruption with that particular file because it didn't happen on any others...and I was toggling back and forth between a couple of presentations at the time.

Like I said I was just following up on any open threads I had. Hopefully the solution you offered above will help others if they have the same issue...that was the goal on the follow up anyway.

Thanks!
