index_lms launching a blank window

Jul 03, 2014

Good morning everyone,

I hope someone can help out with this problem.  Whenever I publish a course to AICC format from my work computer the index_lms file launches a blank window.  If I publish the same course from my home PC everything works just fine.  Both machines are running the same Presenter 9 update 10, OS, Java, Flash, and Power Point.  The pc at the office worked up until a week or so ago.  Any thoughts to what is causing this?  I have seen the one article on the support site about “launching to a blank page” under the LMS section and I have gone back to an older version of java with no luck.  Any and all advice is appreciated.

 Thanks

Hi Rick!

For anyone else that may run across this thread, he is referring to this:

If you see only a blank window when launching an Articulate course in your learning management system (LMS), the issue may be related to the specific version of Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer. Please review this article for more information.

Have you reached out to your LMS as the article describes.

Not sure if anyone in the community has some advice on this issue.

Leslie,

I have read the article and I am not convinced that it is the same problem. I can publish the item from my home pc and everything works just fine. When I publish it from my work pc is when I gett the blank screen. Both PCs are running the same java and flash. I am convinced that it is centered around a java just not sure where it is breaking. I can provide the files from the same course published on each pc if needed.

Thanks

Rick Springer.

Hi Rick,

I hope you don't mind, but could we back up one step, please? Can you clarify where and how you're viewing the published presentation?

You mentioned a couple of times that you're viewing the course on the PC when this happens - does this mean you're viewing it locally, or after you've uploaded to your LMS?

If you're viewing your published files locally, this may be the problem. If you view a published Studio '13 or '09 presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:

Tips for Managing Project Files

  • I suggest using SCORM Cloud for your course - it's a great place to test SCORM content.
  • Another option would be to use our Tempshare server. Just keep in mind that this server is only available for testing content - it is not officially supported by Articulate and all content will be removed automatically after 10 days.
  • You're always welcome to try out Articulate Online, as well - it's available for a free 30 day trial.

If you are viewing from your LMS, does this happen when viewing in a specific web browser, or multiple browsers on that machine? If it's a specific browser, can you tell us which version of that browser you're using and whether or not it works properly in other browsers?

If you could share this information, it would help us narrow down the issue.

Thanks!
