Inserted video won't play when published

Apr 30, 2012

I have a small FLV video that I inserted via PowerPoint's Insert Video tab. I have it synched with other animations so it appears at a certain time then fades. It runs fine when I synch the animations in Articulate but won't run when I preview the slide or publish the project. Any suggestions?

(I tried inserting it through the Articulate tab as a Flash Movie and it plays when published, but then I can't send it in backwards behind other images or synch it with other animations.)

Hi Barb!

Would you like to send us your project files so we can take a closer look? If so, please create an Articulate Presenter package, then upload the zip file to our server. You can review how to do this here:

Send to Articulate Presenter Package – Articulate Presenter ’09 Help

Upload the resulting zip file from your computer to our server using this upload form:

Please be sure to include a description of your issue, your version of PowerPoint, version of Windows and version of Presenter '09, which you can find in Help and Support -> About Articulate Presenter. Please also include the URL for this thread so I can follow up with you personally in the forums. And feel free to come back and leave your case number here so I can keep a close eye on it. Thanks!

Hi, Peter:

Yeah, so my video plays wonderfully when I preview, but doesn't show up at all when I publish (on my computer, that is.)

I want to publish to CD and send to client. When I publish to CD and load it to my dropbox account, the video plays fine. So the issue is almost surely with my computer. Any suggestions as to what settings I need to change?

I've got an iMac running Parallels, and have the latest Flash version (11 something). I've got Camtasia also installed on the Windows side, but I don't imagine that would jack with anything.

I included by the published and original source file (thought I don't see the latter at this moment). Thanks so much. --Daniel

Thanks for the files, Daniel. Cool dog

This seems to be working fine when published for CD and playing the Launch_Player.exe file, as you noted. It also plays fine when published for web and uploaded to a server, as you can see here.

Storyline content always needs to be viewed from the environment for which it was intended, and no doubt local Flash and web security were causing the video to fail when you tried to view it locally.

This is an invaluable article that should help you ensure that your published work always launches and plays as expected.

I hope that helps, and let me know if you run into any issues...
