Link to a folder on a company server
Jul 23, 2012
Hello,
I have a course (11 of them actually) with a link to a folder on our server. Once published, the course will reside on a server and the link to a document on a separate server, but both inside of our company firewall. When publishing, I can not click on the link - nothing comes up.
I have tried the following:
* tiny.url (it wanted to put http:\\ in front of it - it links to an internal server, the http:\\ did not work)
* shortening the path to less than 125 characters (including spaces) - I did this by simply linking to a folder higher in the path.
* Changing from .pptx to .ppt
* Published and uploaded to LMS - the mouse turns to a hand over the link, but clicking and ctrl+click does nothing.
I can not use the resolution of putting the file in the data/downloads folder as this document may be updated and we need to be sure we are linking to the most recent document, which is why we are linking to to the folder, not the actual document.
It's also worth mentioning that on the same slide, is a link to a source page which works just fine.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
April

Hi April, welcome to Heroes!
I'm not sure I'm following why you're hoping to link to a folder rather than the file itself. I'm not sure that would work. Would the solution under Hyperlink to an Existing File in this article be a solution for you?
The reason is that the documents are often updated. To avoid having to re-publish the course each time the document is revised (the name changes with the revision), linking to the folder that the most current file is in seemed like the best option. The folder links works from PowerPoint.
Hi April,
Thanks for the explanation Unfortunately, I don't think linking to a folder is something you'll be able to do with Presenter.
I was able to do a link by using the "attachments" feature. I put in my link to the folder, and activated the attachments tab (using no sidebar view) and this seemed to work.
Thanks for the help.
Awesome, good call! Thanks for checking in
