"PowerPoint encountered a serious problem with Articulate Ribbon"

Apr 06, 2012

I'm using Office 2010 (32-bit) and Presenter '09.  Things seemed to be working just fine until today.  Now no matter what I try to do, the whole thing freezes up and becomes unresponsive.  When I force it to close using my task manager, I get a message indicating that PowerPoint has encountered a serious problem with the Articulate Presenter ribbon and that I should disable the add-in.

Any ideas??

Hi Deb, welcome to Heroes!

You may encounter the following error message when working with PowerPoint:
"PowerPoint experienced a serious problem with the 'articulate presenter ribbon' add-in. If you have seen this message multiple times, you should disable this add-in and check to see if an update is available. Do you want to disable this add-in?"
Please review this article for more information and solutions.

Hi Marsha, welcome to the community

Presenter '09 - Update 9 is our current version, and you can download it here

The error message should only occur when the program has crashed for reasons unrelated to Articulate software, though. It relies on a stable install of PowerPoint, so be sure that your presentations, quizzes, interactions, and audio / video resources are located on your local hard drive (this is typically your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior.

Let us know if you run into any kind of issue, and we'll be happy to help out.

Thanks!

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Vinny!

Can you tell me which version of 2010 you have installed, please? Try to make sure you have the 32-bit installation installed if possible.

Microsoft released a 32-bit and a 64-bit version of Office 2010. Microsoft recommends installing the 32-bit version, and Articulate Presenter '09 will only work with the 32-bit version. Presenter '09 also will not work with the Click To Run version of PowerPoint 2010. For more information, please review the following article:

Which version of Office 2010 should I install, 32-bit or 64-bit?

Also, can you tell me which method you used to uninstall and reinstall? If you haven't tried the steps outlined in the article below, please try that.
