Presenter can't find my project files

Oct 22, 2013

Hello.

I have been working on a project in 2009 and recently upgraded to 2013.  I have been slowly learning the new features.  Anyway, today after publishing my course to CD and word, I went back in to try to make some changes and it says presenter cannot locate the project files each time I try to open an interaction or click on publish.  All was well before.  I did delete some earlier versions that are in my recycle bin and wonder if I could have deleted something that is needed?  I did close the file, reopen it and was able to work with it, then tried later and same message.

I am able to copy and past the interactions into another PP and they will work there.

Looking for answers, thanks, Liz

Hi Liz,

All the Presenter files would need to stay together in the same folder, so the .ppta and the .ppt or .pptx files should all live together. I'd suggest going to look through your deleted items for any of these file extensions and restore them back to your local hard drive where your other Presenter files are saved. You also mentioned interactions, are these ones you've created in Engage? The same will be true, you'll want to make sure that they are local project files, and when you insert it into your Presenter file it is saved within the .ppta file - so you won't want to remove or delete that.

Here's some additional information on working with local files:

If you are experiencing unexpected issues using Articulate software, here are some tips for managing your files which can help prevent issues.

1.  Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.
