Putting Articulate on a new Computer

Sep 19, 2011

I am in the process of buying a new computer and was wondering how I can switch my Articulate license to my new computer.  Thanks.

Hi there Tom.

On your old machine, you can uninstall the software from your Control Panel while connected to the internet, and this will free up that license's activation so that you can install the software on a different PC. Before you uninstall though, it's a good idea to make sure you have the product serial numbers written down somewhere, because you'll need those to activate your license on your new machine. (The serial numbers were in an email from Articulate when you first purchased the software. If you can't find that email, you can open up each Articulate product and go to Help and Support > About and find the serial number there.)

Once you've uninstalled from your old machine, you can download the free trial here: http://www.articulate.com/downloads/freetrial-step1.aspx and then use your serial numbers to activate the license.

Hi, Jeanette,

How many computers can I have with one activation code? I currently have my desktop and my laptop both running the programs. I just got a new laptop and I want to fire up the program. I know I need to uninstall it from my old laptop, but I need to keep it running on my desktop. I'm in the middle of a project! If I uninstall it from the old laptop, I won't mess up the desktop registration, right?

Hey Charles!

That's correct. There should be no interference with your in-progress work on the computer you're keeping Studio installed on. For the old laptop, in the Articulate menu, you'll see a choice called Help & Support, which includes a Deactivate option. If you select that option when connected to the internet, it will deactivate Presenter on that PC, which will free up the installation to be used on a second machine elsewhere. The Articulate End-User License Agreement entitles a single user to use Articulate software on a maximum of two computers, such as a home and work computer, or a desktop and laptop computer. To review the full terms of your license agreement, please see:

Install Studio on the new computer using the link below and the same serial numbers. There is no need to purchase a new license if you have not installed on more than two computers. Happy holidays!

Righto. Our license agreement allows you to install the software on up to two machines, so you should be fine. When you're ready to uninstall from your old laptop, make sure you're connected to the internet, and then use your Windows control panel to uninstall. This will free up your 2nd installation so that it's available when you're ready to put the software on your new machine.

Hi,

I realise this is a very old thread however as it's on topic I thought I'd bring it to life again.

I've installed the Update 3 on my machine and its reverted to the trial version again and I no long have the email with my activation number in. Would the serial number i had be stored on my computer somewhere at all?

Thanks

Laura

Hi Laura and welcome to E-Learning Heroes! So, when you are in Storyline: Click Help Tab, then Click About Storyline, and is your serial number there? I know it 'appears' that you are put back in a trial version sometimes when updating, so I just wanted to double-check.  If you truly do not have a serial number there, then you can get in touch with support for assistance.
