Random Facial Recognition by webcam for verification in Presenter

Sep 08, 2014

Hi all, here is a requirement I'm involved with for a specific on-line Presenter LMS Training project.

I need to have a computer's camera or an attached USB Web-Cam be able to take an initial image of a person taking a tutorial (with permission of course) and then randomly take the person's picture as they're progressing and ultimately taking the mastery test.

I know Google Chrome has some capability for this based on JavaCV script/code. Has anyone ventured into this space or am I the first?

I look and appreciate all input and thoughts regarding this scenario.

Thank you,

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

Pardon me, but this sounds like some extremely paternalistic "Big Brother" type thinking. Typically this type of request comes from some Compliance or Legal department based on their idea of what signifies "completion" of a lesson/course.

I would strongly suggest pushing back on that archaic way of thinking and instead discuss other ways of ensuring that someone has actually learned or "mastered" the content. Things like achieving a task or multiple tasks in a correct sequence or in a set period of time would be a better measure.

If it is something more like the idea that someone might be sitting in for the test taker, the simplest CYA approach is to add a button signifying that the person taking the test is really that person, with common language around falsifying ramifications, etc.

Just my two cents.
