"Serious problem" with Presenter add-in, end Task Manager process

Feb 08, 2011

I've noticed this a few times, and generally it's not a problem, with a short workaround.

Occasionally, I'll attempt to open a .pptx file (with Articulate stuff in it), but nothing happens. I'll go to Task Manager and see the PowerPoint process is running and will end it then and there.

After this, a second attempt to open the file will prompt this message:

PowerPoint experienced a serious problem with the 'articulate presenter communicator' add-in. If you have seen this message multiple times, you should disable this add-in and check to see if an update is available. Do you want to disable this add-in?

I'll click No, and the file opens as usual.

So, this is all fine and dandy since I can work around this issue, but, for curiousity's sake, what is the actual issue, and can it be fixed?

I'm using Windows XP on an enterprise machine, and I have to create a ticket to my Support group to have any updates installed, so that takes at least a week to do. It's kind of a pain.

Hello, I have experienced simaler issue  when I open up the slide proprities for longer then 5 minutes.  PowerPoint freezes up and I have to use task manager to turn off PowerPoint.  I then restart PowerPoint and I get the message mentioned above. I also have an issue with some callout that I make in PowerPoint but when the PowerPoint  is viewed on other machines (After adding Articulate stuff), some of the callouts have changed color. Any Idea what might cause that?  I am using a ASUS 64 bit computer with Office 2010 and all patches installed. Thanks, Jim
