Settings for Using Articulate in Computer Lab

Jul 10, 2014

Hi there, I'm in a University setting and we have a situation re: Articulate in our computer labs.

Short story:

We have our licenses of Articulate Studio in a computer lab for faculty to reserve and use when they need to. Does anyone else have a situation like this? What settings do you use for the computer lab in terms of file saving and re-imaging the computers?

Long story:

Currently, the computers in our lab are set up to re-image every evening and upon reboot, so that they remain free of performance problems. (Please note I'm not an "IT person", so I'm just saying what's been told to me and I can only give the instructional designer's opinion.) So, the recommendation/policy in the lab is that folks need to save their work externally (USB, hard drive, Dropbox, etc.)

Well, we all know that's a big no-no for working with Articulate files. By virtue of the machines getting re-imaged every night (or even if the power button gets accidentally hit), faculty's work and recordings get lost, if they've neglected to save elsewhere. We have signage everywhere, but of course, no one reads it or believes it...

My thoughts are that for the computers with Articulate, they should be set to re-image at a longer interval, like every week or two. This will save headaches and frustration from lost work. I'm trying to fight the IT people for this, but I've been tasked with asking the community if they have any other solutions. The re-imaging software we use is called DeepFreeze.

Any advice would be helpful! Thank you!
