Trouble inserting a quiz
Jul 24, 2012
Hello,
I have imported questions into a quiz for a course, then tried to import the quiz into the PowerPoint. I'm met with the error message "Unable to insert the selected quiz. If this quiz is already open in Articulate Quizmaker, please close the quiz and reinsert it."
I've seen several other posts about this issue. One of these posts prompted me to try building the quiz from a blank Quizmaker file and importing the questions from there--I even saved it with a totally different filename to distinguish it from the original quiz--to remedy the issue, but to no avail. I'm still receiving the same error message. I've now shut down my machine twice and am still getting this error.
Surely there's a work-around?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Ashley

Hi Ashley!
Can you give this a try and let us know if it resolves the issue, depending on your version of Microsoft Windows?:
WINDOWS 7 / VISTA:
%appdata%
3) In the window that opens, right-click the folder named "Articulate", and select Properties.
4) Deselect the Read-Only check box, and click Apply.
5) When prompted to "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders, and files", click OK.
6) Click OK again to close the Properties dialog.
1) Go to Start > Run.
%appdata%
3) In the window that opens, right-click the folder named "Articulate", and select Properties.
4) Deselect the Read-Only check box, and click Apply.
5) When prompted to "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders, and files", click OK.
6) Click OK again to close the Properties dialog.
Hi Peter,
Thank you for your suggestion. I tried this, then shut down and restarted my machine. Unfortunately, when I tried to re-insert the quiz, I still received the same error message. Please let me know if there is another way to insert this quiz.
Thanks!
Ashley
Hey Ashley,
Sorry for the trouble. I'd recommend submitting a case to our support team at this point, and they'll be happy to work with you to get this resolved. Thanks!
Hi Peter,
Thanks for your prompt reply!
Actually, I revisited the post below and took a cue from Ms. Bircher: I created a blank quiz, then imported all the questions from my quiz into the new quiz. I saved it as a different filename, opened my PowerPoint deck, and inserted the quiz. For some reason, this worked and my course now has the quiz inserted.
Any insights as to why this method works, or how to avoid having the problem in the first place?
Thanks again!
Ashley
Cool, glad to hear it Thanks for checking back in, too. Sounds like the file may have become corrupted, which can happen for a number of reasons, but the best ways to prevent it are:
1. Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
3. Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.
