Why Can't I Edit Quizmaker Templates/Text Labels Anymore?

Sep 06, 2011

I am creating a course that has been translated into several languages.  At first, I had no problems while creating templates and making minor edits to the text labels.  Halfway through the project, Quizmaker began crashing and closing out instead of saving new text label files.  Now when I click the edit button nothing happens at all.  It's like Quizmaker no longer wants me to edit templates.  Like there's a limit on how many templates I can create/edit???  Weird.

I tried reparing.  Nothing.  Still am unable to click the Edit button.  I also uninstalled Quizmaker, rebooted, reinstalled Quizmaker.  Still nothing happens when I click Edit.  I'm posting this now and while I wait to see if this has happened to anyone else, I'm going to completely unstall the entire Studio, reboot, and reinstall to see if that resets things.

Hi Sandra,

Can you try editing the permissions of the folder that contains the templates to see if that resolves the issue?

You should have a folder similar to this:

C:\Users\bbatt\AppData\Roaming\Articulate\Shared\1.0\PlayerTemplates

Go to that folder & right-click a folder named SmoothFrame.  Choose Properties & select the Security tab.  For each group or user name, click Edit & make sure that each one has Full Control.  Then, click Apply & reopen Quizmaker.

If you continue to have issues, please let me know.

Folders on our computers are not shared to that extent.  No one else would have access to my files in that way.  I went and changed the settings anyway.

On a whim, I removed all of the custom label files I created and then went back in.  Edit is available again!  While good, it doesn't help much because I have to be able to create/edit the .labels files.  I may try to re-create a couple of them to see if something was corrupt.

Thank you.  I found one of the files to be corrupted.  Once I removed the offending file, I was able to edit my other custom label sets.  I have noticed though, that in trying to save my custom labels, it often will allow me to enter one or two labels at a time before Quizmaker simply freezes then closes altogether.  I've had to enter one or two labels and save frequently to build a language set.  It often takes five or six crashes before I can get through the labels and use them.  It doesn't really like us to create custom labels, does it.

Holy jumpin johosephat!  The answer turned out to be to delete all of the foreign language templates I had created for this particular project.  Technically speaking, the mystery still exists.  Why would creating a number of custom foreign language templates in Quizmaker cause the editing feature to "go away" or become inactive?  The whole purpose of being able to edit a template is to customize a project.  Anywhooooo, deleting that particular project's files from my co-worker's computer worked and she can edit templates in Quizmaker again.

David, if you read this, I sent you a direct email on this same subject!  Connie and I enjoyed meeting you and Tom this week.

I ve got the same issue. Can't edit any template from Quizmaker. Reapired, deinstalled and re-installed Studio 09, deleted all of the templates I had... NOTHING. It drives me crazy. I need to translate courses to 32 languages including Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, ...

Any ideas?

Thanks for some help in advance.

Andreas
