Loss of audio in a Replay video

May 24, 2018

I'm new to Replay and took a video (made with a camcorder), and used the cutting function to clip out little gaps in the audio. I had the audio setting in AUTOMATIC during this editing. When I played it back (during the editing) sometimes the audio was there and it seemed OK and other times there was no audio or the audio would start seemingly at random.

So I thought publishing might solve the problem by stitching all the edits together -- but the published Replay was ALL silent! I'm stumped.

Sorry, for the delayed response - long holiday weekend. I'm using Replay as part of the Articulate 360 (Team) suite. Initially the original video plays fine with sound, but any editing -- even adding the Lower Third, I lose the audio. I see the audio track, but don't hear anything. Later in the video the audio may comeback perfectly. I don't know if I just need to wait while the computer buffers the edits??

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for following back up - and no worries on the delay! We're still catching up ourselves from the long weekend!

I tested your file and at first the audio play all the way through, but once I published or started jumping around the file the audio would intermittently play and sometimes would start 13-20 seconds into your clip. I tried replicating this on my own video files, and those seamlessly played each and every time.

I know a few folks had difficulty before with WMV files that wouldn't play the audio, but since yours was an MP4, I'm curious if you had converted it or something similar?

If not, let me know and I'll start a case for you so that our Support Engineers take a deeper look at what could be happening with your file!

Yes, it was converted from the Sony camera's .MTS file to an .MP4 using the VLC converter software.

HA! That must be it.

Can your technical staff recommend a method or converter that might not cause the trouble?

Also I think we finally figured out how to originally shoot the video on the Sony video camera in .MP4 format so we don't have to convert it.

Thank you.

Hi Wayne,

I typically use Handbrake (https://handbrake.fr/) to convert videos - it's pretty easy, works fast and best of all - it's free!

Hopefully, that helps, and looking at shooting it natively in an MP4 is a good idea too!

Hey Gary.  Thanks for the update.  Let's get you in touch with our support engineers for a closer look.  The good news is that you have 360 Teams, which means you'll have the fastest support.  If you are both having problems with different video files, I'd recommend each submitting a case with your video files and brief description of what you've tried so far.

Hopefully we'll work out the issue and make this process go smoother for you in the future!
