Replay vs. Camtasia

Sep 22, 2017

Hi Everyone,

If your department already has Camtasia, would you have any need for Replay?  Are there reasons to have both products (I haven't used either)?    For example, Replay is good  and quick to use for simple screencasts and editing and Camtasia is good for more complex effects?

Thank you,

John

Hi John,

Replay is included with your Articulate 360 subscription, whereas Camtasia is an additional cost for your department. Replay is great for simple screencast and webcam editing and mixing, and you can publish directly to Articulate Review. Unfortunately right now you cannot add text to a recording from within Replay or stylize transitions the way you can using Camtasia.

Whichever you choose, it really just depends on your department's needs and what they plan to do with their recordings!

Hi Libby,

Here's a quick take on it,

  • Peek: short screencasts that don't need to be edited
  • Replay: screencasts that you want to be able to edit a little
  • Storyline: longer screencasts that you want to be able to add interactivity to

Also, this article on Record, Edit Videos with Articulate 360 will walk you through how each would vary.
