I've seen a similar question asked several different ways. Except this. Built material in Storyline, viewed it (button there) , published it (button there) , uploaded it to our LMS of choice..., no button. Everything else seems to be in tact.
I realize this can easily go the route of "oh well if you saw it while you were working in Articulate, then it's "THEM" 8\ I'm sure it's often the case (as it is this time) folks are working under some sort of deadline. I've no doubt this button works. But for the life of me....
The retry button has it's two triggers (Reset and Jump to).
That's so strange! Have you done any testing in SCORM Cloud yet? If so, are you getting the same results? We generally compare the behavior in SCORM Cloud to your LMS experience to try to parse out file issues versus LMS issues. We are happy to help you with that testing if you'd like to share your file!
Thank you for responding so quick, very much falling behind with this project.
I haven't done any SCORM Cloud testing (primarily because I have no idea what it is) :-)
Right now I have two modules on our LMS. Both seem to function just fine. With the exception of the "Retry Test" button refuses to appear! Yes, I've checked the "Allow user to retake quiz" box. Under the "Button #2" in triggers I've added "reset" and "Jump to" the beginning of the quiz slide.
Get this. For some reason, (only) question #8 (of 11) makes the user basically change the answer (provided it's marked wrong). no other questions do that!
SCORM Cloud is an industry standard in LMS and a really awesome way to troubleshoot LMS issues. Basically, if the problem you're describing also happens in SCORM Cloud, then it's likely a file issue. Otherwise, it's probably something to do with the LMS. You can even sign up for a free account for testing purposes!
I'd also be more than happy to test out your file in SCORM Cloud. Feel free to attach your .story file right to a comment in this thread like this:
Thanks for sharing your published output with me. When I uploaded it to SCORM Cloud, I'm not seeing a "Retry" button either- only the "Review Quiz" button.
Can you share your unpublished .story project file here so I can do some additional testing? Really appreciate it!
When I create the Zip file I bring the project folder to my desktop(so it's not on a network drive). make sure the .story gets dropped in there, then I Zip the lot and upload it.
When I published your course on my end and uploaded it to SCORM Cloud, I'm seeing the "Retry button". Take a look at it here and let me know if you see it.
I've also attached the published output here for you to test in your LMS. Let me know if you see the Retry Button. If so, that may indicate that there was an issue when publishing the course.
I apologize for the attachment, I just tried again and it doesn't appear to be carrying over. Our team is taking a look into that now- sorry for that!
I didn't do anything to your file itself, just opened it and published. So I'm thinking there may be an issue happening when you're publishing. Are you currently running the latest update for Storyline 2, update 12? You can download it over here if not.
Also- are you using the built-in "zip" option in the "Published Successful" window to zip the output before uploading it to your LMS?
Oh my.., so what I sent worked on the cloud, as is?
I went to the link you sent and i saw the button too (great!). Now to get it working on the LMS!
I haven't been using the built in Zip option. I close that window. I bring a copy of the folder with the files in it to my desktop, drop the .story file in then Zip everything. Soon as that's done I upload that Zipped file to the LMS.
It looks like everything else makes it, intact!
I know this works (or something very much like the Retry button).
Ah, ok Karl! You don't need to include the .story file in your zipped output, that might be what's causing interference. We don't recommend making any edits to the published output- such as adding in addition files.
Go ahead and try using the "zip" option after publishing, that will create a zip file with everything you need to run it in the LMS. Then upload that zip file to your LMS.
Strange..., when I Zipped the files in the project and excluded the .story file, I'd get a pop-up at the LMS about missing an imsmanifest.xml file.
That's when I started bringing everything to the desktop and placed the .story file in, Zipping it and then the LMS would let me post, and see everything (cept that darn Retry button).
I had the project on my desktop. Made the ZIP using Articulate. and left the Zip on my desktop. Posted it to the LMS. ...clicked my way to the end and ...there it was..., that lovely blue "Retry Quiz" button :-)
I still don't completely understand how Zipping a project from my network drive can cause a problem. Or how having the .story in the folder before zipping could work at the LMS, with the exception of the button lol.
I'd really like to understand the real cause. I'm stoked the button is there, don't get me wrong lol. I don't have permission to delete course, so I'm waiting for the LMS to wipe out all of my..., efforts ( :-) ). then I'll post the new ones.
We always recommend using the built-in zip option since it creates a package with everything necessary to upload right away. And I'm happy that it worked out for you here ☺️
Working from a network drive in general or making edits to the output and zipping it on your own run the risk of corrupting files, so using the steps you just did will prevent that from happening in the future.
Ah, I see! It sounds like your settings are correct, so I'll take a closer look at your file. Is the file you linked above called ELM_-_2017_Glass_Policy_Annual_Refresher.story the most recent version? If so, can you tell me the slide numbers of the slides that are auto-advancing?
If you have a more recent version, go ahead and attach that one here. Thanks!
Yes that's one of the two. The other is basically the same, but GMP in stead if the Glass Policy. I did create a SCORM Cloud account ( thanks to you two). I tested the GMP one there and yup, each slide advanced on it's own.
I see there's a "Slide Triggers" and a "Player Triggers". My Player triggers are marked jump to next slide (when the timeline ends). But all slides have the player Triggers set to advance to next slide "When the user the next button".
If I check the base layer, in the slide properties i see Slide advances "Automatically". For When revisiting it's set to "Automatically decide".
...every slide has slide properties that need to be set to "By User" huh....
I wanted to show you a quick demo of how you can quickly change the slide properties of all slides to "By User" in just a few clicks.
Select the first slide, hold down the Shift key, and select the last slide. Then change the setting in the slide properties window in the bottom right corner of Story View.
I hope that helps, and give us a shout if you have any more questions!

Trying to send you the whole thing Ali. It's not a huge file, but it is a Zip. The alternative could be about a dozen files.

Hi Ali o/

Ah! I apologize, Karl. I didn't realize you had included the .story file in that zip. Happy Monday to me 😉
I'm taking a look now and I'll get back to you soon!
Happy Monday in deed :-)
Ali thank you so much. You and Alyssa both!
When I run up the project I see both buttons. I have the allow quiz retry box checked.
..., it's set to clear the first quiz try and take them back to question #1.
Amazing (partially because it's taken me more hours than I care to share)!
I don't see the attachment?
Yes, I did see the Retry button on the page you linked to me. Does that mean it works? Most important, thank you!
What didn't I do? Left a box unchecked??
I need to understand what it takes to have this one and the GMP one i'd posted at about the same time work ASAP. Teach meh! (please :-) )

Give it a try this time and let me know what happens

Silly question but, a question regarding slides automatically advancing would need a new thread yes?
Hi Karl! You're welcome to ask your question here or start a new thread--either way, it works for us!
Can you tell me a bit more about your question regarding slides that automatically advance?
Hi Alyssa,
Thank you :-)
So both modules have that wonderful "Retry Quiz" button, splendid!
...but I got work a few hours ago they're both auto advancing. I went back in and both have these settings:
In the Player triggers I’d set it to advance when the User clicks, not Auto!
Also in Properties I have it set to “Slide advances: By User”, When revisiting: Automatically decide”.
Is there something else that can control when the slide is advanced?
Ah, I see! It sounds like your settings are correct, so I'll take a closer look at your file. Is the file you linked above called ELM_-_2017_Glass_Policy_Annual_Refresher.story the most recent version? If so, can you tell me the slide numbers of the slides that are auto-advancing?
