Accessibility challenge for focus not coming on text field and images by pressing Tab key

Dec 02, 2020

Hi,

We have created two pages sample with accessibility on. While testing on JAWs 18, focus is not going to test field and images by default by pressing Tab key. But when we assign a trigger on second slide on same text field then focus is going but JAWs read those text as button. Please suggest how we can apply Tab focus on text field as this is the requirement from our customer and we have delivered many modules last year with same feature.

We need a urgent solution, we are using around 100+ of Storyline licenses and it seems that the accessibility features are unusable and rejected by our customers. Tab navigation for each element is a basic and required feature according to WCAG2.0 guideline. And we are failing to understand why Storyline is discontinue this Tab key focus feature as accessible audiences regularly use this and it is critical for success of accessible product.

Hi Sumit,

Thanks for writing in and working closely with our Support Engineers on this! I'm recapping my teammate Darwin's findings publicly:

  • Behavior: We discovered an issue in Storyline where the yellow accessibility box does not align on most objects in the slide. The yellow box appears at the top of the slide for text when using a screenreader.

I'm sorry we haven't found a workaround as of yet, but we'll notify this discussion on any new developments!

Hello again, Sumit!

Great news!  We just released another update for Articulate 360 and included a few important fixes you'll see in the release notes.

The item you'll be interested in is:

Fixed: When using keyboard navigation, the focus rectangle was sometimes misaligned or offset from the selected object.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.
