Action Fine Tuning Issue with Win11

Apr 24, 2023

My company recently updated my PC to Win11.  I followed the instructions to delete and re-install Storyline3.  Now when I try to use the Action Fine Tuning tool for screen recordings that were done using Win10, my storyline shuts down completely.  Is this a known issue?  Is there a fix for this?

Hi Vance, Renee, and Jessica!

I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360!

One fix we’ve included in Build 3.79.30921.0:

Storyline 360 could crash when fine-tuning screen recordings.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here, and please let me know if you need additional help!

Hi Vance,

Welcome to the E-Learning Heroes Community!

I'm sorry to hear you're hitting this snag with the Action Fine Tuning tool, and I'm happy to help troubleshoot. We can start by checking if you're working on your local drive; working on a network drive can cause erratic behavior. If the problem still happens, try running these steps to repair the Storyline 3 installation.

We'd be glad to investigate further if the problem persists. You may share your Storyline project here or privately in a support case so we can take a look. We'll delete it when we're done testing.

Hi Jessica,

Great question! I understand that Storyline is shutting down while using action fine-tuning.  I’m happy to work with you to figure out why this is happening!  I have a follow-up question regarding the situation so I can understand what you are experiencing a little better.

  • Is this happening with multiple files or just one?
  • Is the crashing happening with longer screen recordings? We, currently, have a bug logged where this has been happening with longer screen recordings.
  • Were you able to go through some of the troubleshooting steps that Eric mentions above?

Thanks for reaching out and I look forward to your response!

Hi John! Thanks for reaching out.

The issue spans several files/recordings. The recordings range from around 1-5 minutes. One of them is a longer recording (8 minutes) -- So I think the crashing on that particular sequence can be attributed to the bug mentioned in your post.

Yes! Yesterday I followed the troubleshooting steps mentioned by Eric because I was experiencing some other (harmless but annoying) unexpected behavior inside Storyline. I crashed a few times after following the troubleshooting steps while working with the longer recording -- but that is probably to be expected? I will update you later today if I crash while working with the shorter recordings.

Thanks for the response, Eric.  The steps provided did not fix my issue.  I have opened a Support Case.

Also, I found out today that i am unable to import slides that I created using Windows11 into a project that I had started when i was using Windows10.  Would that be a new support case?

Hi Vance!

Sorry to hear you are still experiencing issues with the Action Fine Tuning tool. Great call on opening a support case. I see that you've been working one on one with my colleague Rowie. You're in excellent hands!

I'll update your case with the feedback you shared about the inability to import slides as well.

We'll continue this conversation over in your support case!
