Articulate 1 .story files missing

Mar 15, 2017

Hi,

I recently did a mandatory windows update to my computer. When the update was done all of my .story files were gone. I need to update the lessons and without these files I am going to have to completely redo everything. I still have a lot of the Output files so I can reuse the audio but it is a painstaking process matching audio files with the screens. Anyway, anyone have any ideas on recovering the .story files?

Thanks

Hi John,

Sorry to hear you're in such a pickle! It sounds like the Windows update wiped out all programs and files? The .story files aren't stored in the program itself, but locally on your computer wherever you chose to save them. I'd suggest working directly with IT to try and recover them, and you may want to have them follow the steps here to look in your temp folders. We've seen some users have success with this type of set up. Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
