Articulate Storyline 3 - Publishing

Dec 19, 2017

I have recorded a 30 minute screen capture and included it into a project. I have published the course using articulate storyline 3. What are the settings I need to put in place so that I can disable the learners from skipping through the video.

The organisation wants to make it compulsory for all learners to go through the entire video before the course is marked complete.

To restrict navigation, you need to adjust settings before you publish the course. The simplest way is to go to the Menu Options window in the Player and select Restricted in the Menu drop-down list. (See attached image for how to get there.) If you do that, the first time someone views a slide, Storyline will automatically disable the NEXT button until the slide's timeline ends. Note that this impacts ALL slides.

If you don't want to restrict navigation for all slides, you can add your own triggers to the slide with the video. Add one trigger to disable the NEXT button when the timeline starts, and add another to enable the NEXT button when the timeline ends. Ideally, you should also add variables and conditions so the NEXT button won't be disabled if someone returns to the slide. Refer to Articulate's tutorials if you need basic information about triggers, variables, and conditions.

Aside from all that, I'd highly recommend that you divide the screen recording into multiple segments. A 30-minute video may be difficult for an LMS to stream -- and, of course, difficult to watch if you can't control it. Much better to have shorter segments.
