Audio Doesn't Stop Upon Course Exit

Dec 18, 2018

I'm testing a newly published module and the slide narration doesn't stop when I exit the course. If the user goes back into the course before the audio is finished, it will play the two audio clips simultaneously. It doesn't happen on every slide and it only happens in IE. I didn't create the module (I republished for SCORM 1.2 and in html5 with flash fallback), but I compared the slides that work properly with those that continue to play and I don't see any differences. Any ideas?

Hi there Beth,

Let's try and sort this out together! I have a couple of questions to start:

  • What version of Storyline did you use to publish this project? To find out, go to the Help tab, then click About Storyline
  • Are you testing the published project on a learning management system? If not, security restrictions from your local computer may be causing this wonky behavior. Instead, upload the output to SCORM Cloud (a free LMS testing tool) and retest the project there.

Hi Alyssa,

I used Storyline 360 to publish. I am testing from our LMS (SumTotal Systems). Unfortunately, I'm unable to use SCORM Cloud to test, due to company policies (security/regulatory). Unfortunately, telling users to not use IE is not an option. In order to pass the testing phase, it must perform in all 3 browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox). This problem is occurring on all 6 of my recently published modules.

Hi Beth.  Thanks for replying!  I know you said it doesn't happen on every slide, but on the slide where it does happen, is it always those same slides?  Also, is it always narration, or do you see other audio (like from a video or a web object) continue playing?  These details help us to try to recreate the problem on our end.

We can keep your files safe, so if you'd like to share with me or a support engineer directly, please feel free!  We're happy to help test why this happens.

I just went through the course multiple times and most of the time, the narration doesn't stop when the pop-up window is closed. There were a few instances where narration stopped as it should, but it was not consistent. For example, slide 4 worked fine the first 2 times, but not the 3rd and 4th try. On slide 6, the narration didn't stop the first and third time, but did stop on the second try. There weren't any slides that consistently stopped as they should every time. I work in the nuclear industry, so unfortunately I can not share content. I reached out to my ID friends and they've had similar issues with no resolution.
