Hello all, I am experiencing an issue with my audio in Storyline. When previewing the slide, it is cutting off the end of my audio on several slides. I have extended the timeline by a few seconds and deleted and re-inserted and nothing is working to resolve this issue. When I play the audio from the audio tools, it plays the entire duration. Is there a maximum file size? Can someone offer some help?
I have also heard from others users in the community that adding a small amount of silence to the end of the problematic audio sometimes resolves the issue.
Let me know if these solutions work, or if we need to investigate further!
Thanks for that information - let me know if the import works! Also, I wanted to let you know that responding via email includes your email signature here. You're welcome to come back and edit out personal information, if you would like. :)
Thanks for coming back to let us know that didn't resolve it. Is it only during preview that it's happening? When you preview the whole course or just one slide? What about while publishing? Did you try in a brand new file as Alyssa mentioned to see if it was file specific, or the audio silence at the end?
Let me know about those items and I'm also happy to take a look at the project in question - just upload the .story file here for us using the "add attachment" button and we'll be able to take a peek!
I had tried to go in and fix some. I was having difficulties specifically with 7.3. Although I have had periodic difficulties with the following: They seem to be fixed and I will preview again and it cuts it off again.
Hey Roxanne - I looked at a few of the slides you shared above and I'm not getting any cut-off. I put a visual at the end of the slide to assist in identifying any issues.
You mentioned that you imported the slides into a new file. I'm assuming that you re-published and still experienced the issue? Publishing to the web, but where is the content hosted? Is it happening in a particular browser?
I did experience this problem once published. It is hosted in our LMS. If it is working correctly on your end. Do you have any suggestions to fix the issue on my end.
I'm having a similar issue. What it appears to be, is that when you import the audio, the slide length automatically updates to just less than the imported audio.. SO for some reason the timeline is cutting it short. When you extend the end of the timeline out by a few seconds (so it LOOKS like there's a few seconds of silence), it actually plays the full audio (it's just not there in the timeline).
So the full audio is there, you just need to extend the timeline in order for it to play.
It's clearly a bug in they system or something - it's incredibly frustrating, as it means on every slide you have to extend the timeline by a trial and error amount in order to fit the audio in.
Hey Lucy! Sorry you're having trouble with importing audio. We definitely wouldn't expect the timeline to be shorter than the duration of the audio file.
Is it possible that you’re working from somewhere other than your local C: drive? Working from a network drive or a USB drive can cause a few different problems, and you can read more about that here. Also, did you follow the steps in this tutorial?
If everything checks out there, we'd like to take a closer look at your file. You can attach it here in the thread by using the ADD ATTACHMENT button, or you can send it directly to our Support Engineers here if you’d prefer to send it privately.
Hi Alyssa,
Thanks for your response.
I'm working completely from the C Drive and inserted the audio from file (also c drive) using the normal method described.
I'll send the file privately if that's ok.

This is a constant issue in my files as well. It's quite annoying. I came here to see if there was a solution. I have already been extending my timelines out beyond the audio clip but audio is still cutting off in preview.
Is the behavior only occurring in preview, or are you seeing it in the published output too? What version of Storyline are you using? Where are you hosting the published output (web server, LMS, etc.)?
I'm using SL 2. I'm in preview, haven't tested this one out published yet. However, I've had complaints before on modules published to our web server. The weird thing is that it's not always the same slides and the audio doesn't stop at the same point. If the user replays the slide, the audio usually plays fine. It is the weirdest thing! I've experienced it for about a year or so but usually manage it as best I can with extra time added to the timeline.
I do not know if this problem was solved for others, as it was 3 months ago. When I am in the Powerpoint presentation that has audio imported, it plays fine when in PREVIEW. but when I publish for LMS to get the scorm 1.2 zip file, and upload that file to our LMS, the playback is cutting off on most of the slides. Since it is not in storyline version, and I have the slide properties advance automatically (I restricted navigation), I do know know how to change the timeline as others suggested above, because TIMING is greyed out when I open audio editor in presenter. I am working from my c: hard drive directly.
I'm so sorry that's causing some headaches-- I can help!
Have you tried uploading your course to SCORM Cloud to see if the same audio issue happens there? That'll give us a good idea if it's file specific or if there's something occurring within your LMS.
You're also welcome to share your Articulate Package here and I'd be happy to do some testing with it!

Hi Roxanne!
Have you seen this issue in any other files? If not, you may want to import the slides into a new file. Also, can you confirm that you're working from your local hard drive?

The only thing I have not tried was to import the slides into a new project.

It does look like importing it is working. Thank you for your help!
Great to hear! Thanks for popping back in with an update!
Actually, I spoke too soon. That did not fix the issue.

The error also occurs when published. It is only occurring on certain slides but not all slides. I have tried a brand new file.
Hey Roxanne - Thanks for sharing your file for us to take a look - could you direct me to a few problematic slides to focus on? That would be helpful.

Here is my published file.
The file used is attached.

Ah, I noticed it was set to publish to web, which is how I tested.
Do you experience a similar issue when testing the content in SCORM Cloud or is the issue only within your LMS?
This is most likely a buffering problem. Solve it by setting the trigger to advance when the audio completes, rather than when timeline ends.

Absolutely, that sounds great. Be sure to send me your case number once you open a case so I can follow along with you. :)

Could it be a buffering issue? Have you tested it on a few different networks (such as home vs. work, or a coffee shop wifi?)
