I am not sure why, but the custom button I have created just reloads the same slide (in a few cases, mostly it works perfectly fine). When I copy and paste the problematic slide with the non functioning button to a new project, everything works smoothly again. Any suggestions? I have also tried to add the direct link to the previous slide in the trigger, rather than leaving the generic "previous slide" but it didn't help.
My English is not very good but I will do my best.
Have you checked in your triggers that the problem does not come from the slide that is chosen (if you copy/paste the slide, maybe it refers to the wrong one or no slide is chosen in the trigger)?
If you want, you can share the Storyline file to check what could be the cause.
Hi Lucia, the back button works like a browser history back button, and you
can sometimes get stuck in a loop using it. With the projects we build we
hard code the navigation of the back button to the slide prior to the
current slide. This way we can always be sure the user will navigate to the
prior slide in the project, rather than the slide in the browser history.
It sounds like you are using the "Previous slide" navigation, which can
cause sometimes confusing behaviour.
I checked the trigger and tried both linking to "previous slide" and to the specific slide as well. In both cases it doesn't work. If I copy and paste the problematic slide, and the previous slide in a new project, all works well...
You mention adding the specific slide to the trigger vs. leaving 'Previous slide' as the target and this is the same as 'hard coding' or programming it to a specific slide.
That being said, it sounds like that solution may not work for you as you've mentioned trying it out.
With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file (just let me know what slide to focus on) to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
No problem, Lucia. Glad we were able to find the culprit together.

Hi Sam,
thanks for your feedback, this might be the problem, so how can I hard code the navigation of the back button? Thanks for your help!
Thank you for the information Lucia,
Indeed, I would suggest you to use Sam's method and therefore program the button on the specific slide.

Hi Leslie,
thanks for your response. I will send you the file privately, it would be great if you could help me solve this problem!
Thanks a lot,
Lucia
Of course, Lucia. I have not seen the file come through yet, but when you submit it, you'll get a confirmation and I'll get a notification.
Just wanted to share that I got your support case, Lucia. I'm taking a look and will reply back to you privately via e-mail.
Excellent, thanks a lot Leslie!
Best,
Lucia

Thanks Leslie, I have removed it. It's clearly Friday afternoon... time for the weekend! :)
