Background Audio feature still playing on slide layers containing video

Jun 30, 2023

Really liking the new feature to add background audio.  It is working great and the feature to stop while a video is playing is working, apart from when I have a slide with layers.

My Slide has short videos (IT system screen recordings with voiceovers) on each layer and whilst the background audio stops  while the video is playing on the base layer, it starts up again and continues when the the second and subsequent layers are loaded.

I have tried searching for a solution but can't see anything in the forums.  Any suggestions..??

Hello Jackie (and any community members who view this thread in the future)! ✨

I'm happy to share that we have released a new update for Storyline 360 (Build 3.78.30680.0).

In this update, we have implemented a fix for:

  • Background audio unexpectedly played when watching video content on a layer.

As a first stepI recommend updating Storyline 360 to the latest version. Here's how:

Update Authoring Apps

If you have any questions on Update 78, please let us know in this thread or privately in a support case.

Have a great day!

Hi Jackie,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue.

I can confirm that we are currently tracking a known issue where the background audio won't pause when a video on a slide layer plays in a course. The current workaround is to keep all videos in the base layer, which you've already identified. Another option is to use lightboxes instead of layers to display content. You can check out the workaround in Slide 3 of the attached project file. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we'll let you know as soon as a fix is released for this issue.

Hello Crystal,

Sorry to hear you're still running into this snag with the background audio; we're happy to help look into this for you. As initial troubleshooting, try running these steps to rule out an installation issue.

Would you be comfortable sharing the affected Storyline project if the behavior still happens? This could be a recurrence of the bug or another problem altogether. You can share it here or privately in a support case; we'll delete it when we're done testing!
