Branching Quiz Responses

Apr 11, 2024

I have created an eLearning with 11 questions at the end.  2 issues I am struggling with test attempts. On the "Try Again" response next to the "try again" button I added a "Review Slide" button that branches back to the slide referenced in the question.  On that branched slide there is a "Return to Quiz" button to go back to quiz question, which works fine. My issue is I have not been able to set the right variables to only allow 2 attempts at the question.  On the 2nd failed attempt I want the "Incorrect" layer to appear (that has the Continue) button.  I have googled and tried many things but to no avail.

The other issue is I have 2 drag/drop questions and I want the correct answers to remain on the next attempt and only reset the incorrect answers.  I found a youtube video that helped me put motion on the responses but it only works on the user clicks the "Try Again" button. When the "Review Slide" button mentioned above is clicked and they come back to quiz from the branching slide, the drop/drag resets all responses.  Will I be able to keep the correct responses after branching and returning back to quiz?

It sounds like you're doing extra work that isn't necessary.

Storyline's Graded Questions allow you to set the number of attempts.

  • If the user answers incorrectly and they haven't used all of the attempts, Storyline automatically shows the Try Again layer. (Storyline automatically adds that layer when the Attempts field is >1.)
  • If the user answers incorrectly and they have used all of the attempts, Storyline automatically shows the Incorrect layer.

By the way, instead of branching back to the review slide, you could just lightbox it. That might solve the issue for the drag-and-drops, because the user wouldn't actually leave the slide.
