Can no longer resize Storyline!

Oct 01, 2012

I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this. I've submitted it to support. More on that below the description.

I've used a program called Sizer for a few years now. It came at the recommendation of a very knowledgeable person who uses it all the time. When launched, it sits in the background and allows you to size application screens perfectly. I've used it alongside Camtasia Studio (TechSmith) to size my windows appropriately during video recording.

Today I tried to use it alongside Storyline and Screenr. It wasn't working well, so I exited the program. Suddenly, I could no longer resize Storyline. That is, I can minimize, maximize, and restore to the size I'd been using when I exited Sizer, but I cannot make the Storyline window any other size. The double-edged arrows APPEAR, but don't work.

By the way, no other programs have been affected. All work as they always have.

Support suggested that

  1. I uninstall Sizer and reboot. I did
  2. Then uninstall Storyline and reboot, which I did.
  3. Then use the link they provided to install SL, Update 1 (I was using Update 1 previously), which I did.
  4. And see if I could resize SL. I can't.

I reported back to them, but haven't heard anything. I assume they're working on it. In the meantime, I wondered if any of you have run into this bug and if you know how to resolve it? I assume something's been written to the registry somewhere?

TIA

Becky

According to their website, sizer works by storing configuration information in your computer's registry.  He also states that it's based on "how things are supposed to work" which would make me a little apprehensive about using it.  It makes me worry that it may be rather unpredictable and not overly supported.  And judging by the site's name, it looks to be a one-man projects, which means it may be difficult to get ahold of them.

If nobody has a better answer, you may want to have an IT person investigate removing Sizer's presence in your registry.  It may be stuck on for some reason.

Sizer stores its configuration information in the registry under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sizer.

You could try using Revo Uninstaller to uninstall both SL and Sizer before reinstalling both as normal.  Revo gives you the option of digging up and removing all kinds of stuff that doesn't get deleted when doing a 'traditional' uninstall.  The upshot is you might just end up getting rid of some registry 'badness' (if that is the cause of course).

Thanks, Matthew and Simon,

Matthew, re: "Sizer stores its configuration information in the registry under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sizer."

Thanks. I'd also seen this earlier and checked it out. After uninstalling Sizer, there isn't any info in this registry key. That is, Sizer isn't here. If only it would have been so easy.

Also, just an FYI, I've been using Sizer for 2.5 years with absolutely no problems

Simon, thanks for the Revo suggestion. I'm still hoping to hear back from support; but this may be my next steps.

Thanks to you both.

Hi Maria and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know that you are running into a similar issue.

It looks like the original post referred to a 3rd party program.

Are you having difficulty using another piece of software or are you having an issue within Storyline?

If it's within Storyline, would you be able to explain the issue you are currently seeing as well as the steps to replicate? We would be happy to take a look.
