Can Storyline generate a unique code for student to report to me?

Oct 29, 2013

Until we can afford an LMS or the use of Articulate's, I'd  like to have Storyline generate a "unique" code number that the student will get at the end of a course.  I'd ask the student to put that unique code on our existing course completion form and sent that to HR. (I'm using the Completion certificate template, yes, but my students are often unable to print, and I'd like to get something else to verify completion.)  I was thinking of having them enter their initials and have SL generate a code number that started and ended with the initials. I wouldn't need to actually know the codes but I'd recognize the format and be able to tell that the student had indeed reached that last frame. Ideas?

Michael,  Thanks very much, and I really mean it. But I have to say... this is why I bought Storyline: because I simply can't write code and probably never will. If it doesn't come in a template it probably ain't happenin'. But I will look at your examples provided and see if I can get anywhere with it. Scripting makes my head explode.

Hi Nora, I feel your pain I don't want to complicate things, but here is one option that uses questions banks (rather than a JavaScript) to generate a (to a degree) random number.
