Hello, I'm working on a new Storyline file that I created. Everything was working fine until recently. Now, I can preview a slide and everything is fine. I can publish the course and everything is fine. But when I hit play on the timeline, I can't hear my audio. This makes it nearly impossible to sync my audio. There are currently 49 slides in the file, no video.
I'm sorry you've run into this issue - we've shared it with our team, but so far haven't been able to replicate it ourselves. Could you help by sharing a bit more info with me?
What version of Storyline are you using?
What version of Windows are you on?
When did you first notice this behavior? Do you know if that coincided with any updates to Storyline or Windows?
Have you been able to reset your audio/speaker settings to at least hear through the standard speakers?
Anything else you can think of to help us track this down!
It appears that the latest Flash update 27 (although there is now a new version 27 in Beta) changed how the audio settings would work for Flash playback. The timeline preview in all versions of Storyline and Quizmaker is Flash based.
For me this problem isn't project related. It is an always problem. If my
headphones are plugged in I can't hear the audio when I hit play on the
timeline.
Thanks Chris. Looks like Renz is already taking a look, so you should be hearing from someone soon.
Hey Alison,
Have you been having this problem the entire time or has another flash update caused the issue? Curious what operating system and flash version you are using as well.
I've opened a support case on your behalf so that our team can dig into what may be going on since this issue is popping back up and it looks like both you and Chris are on the latest Flash version.
Just FYI, yesterday I was working from an remote location and was using
earbuds with an audio jack. Those work. My normal headset has a USB
connection.
I'm having the same problem. I'm running Windows 7 with Flash 30.0.0.154. The timeline audio was working fine last week, and now I can't hear it on my speakers or headphones. When I tried the fix through Internet Explorer, I did not have an audio option. It looks like Flash has removed customizable audio settings?
I am having same issue as I do not hear audio when I hit play on timeline. I can hear audio when I open audio editor, but not when trying to synch when pressing play on timeline. I have uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled Storyline and still no luck. Reset all sound settings, etc.
Thanks for reaching out! It looks like you connected with my teammate, Gerald, and after a disk cleanup and software reinstall, you were able to hear the audio again.
Let us know if you run into this issue in the future!
I'm having this same problem. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Storyline, but I can't hear the audio through the timeline nor when previewing. The audio plays fine through the Media Library though. Any other solutions?
Update: I downgraded from 3.40.22208.0 (where audio wasn't playing) to 3.39.22088.0 and audio is now playing. On a separate computer the current version 3.40.22208.0 does work. Not sure if it's something with the computer or an issue with the software. Any ideas?

Update. I had my computer guy here and now I can hear it through the computer speakers, but we can't get it to work through my headphones.
Im having the same issue. It started a few days ago. Ive tried different computers and different headphones. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Leslie,
I’m using Storyline 3 dated 9/12/17, Windows 7, and at this point, probably 2 weeks. Yes, I am able to hear through speakers now.
Thanks,
Alison
Thank you Alison - I've shared this information with our team.
Thanks for your patience as we dug into this!

We've detailed out some steps here on how to fix this for Flash, and this is a behavior our team is still looking at fixing in Storyline/Quizmaker so that you won't run into it again!
Thank you!

Hi,
I still have this problem. When I follow the steps as described here https://articulate.com/support/article/Storyline-and-Quizmaker-Timeline-Audio-Won-t-Play-Through-Headphones, I do not see a speaker icon in the tabs of the flash player settings.
Hi Chris,
Sounds like you may have a newer version of Flash then, which should make this problem obsolete. Sorry to hear that you're running into an issue.
Hi Leslie,
I am on Windows 10 (64 bit) and Flash version 30.0.0.154.
Thanks Chris. I just found a sample file and I have Win 10 and Flash 30.0.0.134.
I do not have an issue with the course in the timeline preview using headphones.
Is this happening in more than one course for you?
I'm going to open a support case on your behalf so that our support team can take a closer look.
Thanks for opening the support case ( #01488168). I just uploaded the file that has the problem. The probleem seems to be project related.

Yes, this has been for the past 11 months. I'm on Windows 7, Flash 30.0.0.134

Curiouser and curioser Alison.
I'll be sure to add this note to your case as well. Thanks for popping in to share.

Hi Andrea and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you are experiencing as well.
When you mention that it's not working through your speakers either, are these built-in speakers or ones you have connected to your computer?
Also, what version of Storyline are you currently using?
Yes, the fix for Flash was for the older versions.
