I have a slide on which there is a base layer containing some text boxes and 4 rectangles. When you preview the slide and click on each of the rectangles, some hidden layers containing text appear. However, back in edit mode, in the layers area, I can't see those hidden layers and thus can't edit them. Can anybody help?
Yes, that did it, I had to click to view the states and timeline. When the state of the object changes to 'visited', the object looks different and I can then click to edit the extended object's text.
Thanks for your quick reply.
David.

Yes, I now have one in which the audio track needs to be deleted, but is hidden. Any clues on that one?

I'd agree with Wendy's thought here that the audio may be on a master slide or even a slide layer or master slide layer. If you're still unable to find it, could you share that part of the .story file so that we could take a look?

Hi David
instead of layers, do the rectangles have different states and the states contain the text?
Yes, that did it, I had to click to view the states and timeline. When the state of the object changes to 'visited', the object looks different and I can then click to edit the extended object's text.

When you say hidden, you mean you don't see "audio" in the timeline? or an icon to the left of the slide?
Try checking the master slide layouts - could be on there or on a layer timeline
