Can we set questions/quizzes on Storyline courses as complete when reviewing training from a user's history?

Sep 22, 2020

Hi everyone,

We have a handful of Storyline courses which are used as training for gaining access to our various systems which have questions/quizzes embedded throughout them. We have noticed when going into our completed training to review the course content, we are forced to answer every question within the course again.

Is there any way when publishing the course in Storyline to lock in the user's answers once the course is complete so they do not need to be completed again every time they go back into it to review the content?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi, Ben,

Storyline can't track whether someone has already completed a course unless the course is in an LMS.

  • If you're just running courses on a web server, users will always have to retake the quizzes.
  • If you are running the courses on an LMS, better check the settings for the LMS and for Storyline, because a course shouldn't force a user to retake a quiz they've already passed (unless the course is set to "Never resume" on restart).

Depending on the type of content, consider providing an alternate way for users to review content. For example, you could publish a course as a Word file, delete everything except the images of the slides (but not the quiz questions), save that as a PDF, and then let people access that. Or copy each slide image onto a PowerPoint slide, and use that file for review. Of course, neither of those options provide interactivity. But they do provide a way to quickly look up content from a course.

Hi Judy,

Thanks a lot for your response and suggested alternative method.

We are using SuccessFactors as our LMS provider that we use for all training types (in this case Storyline).

I have had a look in Storyline for specific settings that would prevent the need for a user to run through questions again when reviewing their completed courses but have had no luck. Could you let me know which specific settings we would need to have enabled/disabled to prevent this from happen?

Thanks!

Ben

Hello Ben and welcome to E-Learning Heroes 😊

Thanks for the additional information. I'm not clear on why you may be required to answer the questions again.

With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
