Below is a screen shot of my trigger for a button. in preview the button disappears when cursor over it but does not reappear after cursor leaves button. Articulate says there is a bug in the program. does anyone have a work around?
I want the learner to be able to test herself to see if she knows want the answer is beneath the button, then move on to the other labels to test erself
Yes, that is correct they silently think about the possible answer, put the cursor over the label covered by the button to see the correct answer.. I want the button to reappear after the cursor moves away from button. then learner can test themselves on the other buttons.
I'm sure layers would also work. When you mouse over the button, a layer appears with the correct answer. You then need some way to get back to the base layer. Like adding a "back" button to the same layer that when you click it, it closes the current layer.
thanks for the suggestions. the marker is a solution, but then I would need to type in a lot of labels for a lot of slides I would be using in anatomy. Still not knowledgable about layers yet. I am hoping that articulate folks will react and fix this but quickly. It would save me a bunch of time.
From posts in the forum, a new version of Storyline is supposed to be out "soon." Obviously I don't know what "soon" means or what is included. So if you have a longer lead time, there might be joy coming?
In fact, I just tried this with a mouseover that shows the layer with one of the right answers. When I moused over it showed the layer with the right answer and then disappeared when I moused off.
I used shapes instead of buttons. Each of the layers for the right answer also have a white square behind so it effectively hides the square on the base layer.
If I may add just one thing... when working on layer, you also can hide items individually from the base layer such as the shape/button. It prevent you from having to insert blank shape and covering accidentally a part of something that should always show.
Or add a hover state to the shape (or with a button use the existing hover) and color it to be "transparent" for the hover.
In fact, now that I thought of it finally , you could do the whole thing with object states and nothing else. Edit your button's hover state to include the text you want. Color the button to be "transparent. Have no triggers then on the button.
I love the fact that with Storyline sometimes you have so many options. :)
the mouse over story does exactly what I want to do, but I would still have to add a lot of layers with text for the many self study images I would be giving to my students. Unfortunately, I do not have a staff person who could do this for me.
Great Gerry, I have looked at the file and it works well.
But if I understand well what Andrew is trying to do, is show the text that is included in the background when mouse hover.
That should work also, I have just changed the "hover" state of the button to be completely transparent so when you hover, it disapear whitout having to use the trigger panel which may cause the previous problem.
Thanks, Anne! I just thought of that as well and was going to post that. You beat me.
With that, once you create the button with just the transparent hover, you can copy, paste and resize it, if needed, as often as you like. Probably the quickest method.
Annie: I did it like you suggested and it works great for me. Many thanks to you and Gerry for your patience with me and willingness to help!! I am truly grateful - since I am a 2 day novice in story line who happened to find a bug in the program.

For possible workarounds or other approaches, just what exactly do you want to happen on the slide for the learner?
I want the learner to be able to test herself to see if she knows want the answer is beneath the button, then move on to the other labels to test erself
Thanks.
Does the learner silently think of the answer to themselves or do they have to enter it or choose it somehow?

Thanks--I see the bug now.
One approach would be to use markers instead of buttons. Here's a tutorial on markers: http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/adding-markers.aspx
I'm sure other folks may have other ideas.

What's your deadline for getting this out?

I'd get to know layers. One of the best things in Storyline. http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/adding-and-editing-slide-layers.aspx

My course starts in August and I have a lot to do, so time is critical. I will explore the layer issue more. Thanks a bunch for your advice
Here's an example.
Demo

My story file is below.
If I may add just one thing... when working on layer, you also can hide items individually from the base layer such as the shape/button. It prevent you from having to insert blank shape and covering accidentally a part of something that should always show.
Just my 2 cents... Have a nice day!

And remove the shadow on the button.
Example 2 with just buttons and states.

Is this an acceptable solution for you, Andrew?
Hope it helps, have a nice day!
