Cannot get Hotspot Trigger to work on LMS on Remote Desktop Services

Jan 11, 2017

I created a training in Articulate Storyline 2 using SCORM 1.2 and posted it on our LMS (Relias), and it includes multiple slides for folks to practice by clicking on hotspots to trigger the "Play Media "Screen Recording Action" when the user clicks".  When anyone logs into our LMS from their own computer, the training and hotspot trigger work fine. However, most of our staff use Remote Desktop Services to log in and get to the LMS. These users get to the first hotspot trigger and when they click on it, nothing happens. Are there issue with running Articulate trainings on Remote Desktop Services? Or does anyone know what software requirements are needed to run an articulate published training that maybe we don't have on our Remote Desktop services (e.g. Flash, or something else needed that might be holding this up)? I would greatly appreciate help, as most of our staff are unable to take this training.

Hello Robert,

Thanks for reaching out and for sharing the screenshot of your triggers - everything looks fine there. You'll want to ensure the systems the staff are using match the minimum system requirements here, and you may also want to  look at testing the published file in another environment such as SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for LMS Testing. This article will walk you through testing steps and help see how it'll behave in another environment.

I haven't seen a lot of other threads about using a Remote Desktop Setup, so hopefully if someone has experience with this they'll be able to chime in here.

Thanks Alyssa,

We checked all the system requirements and it looks like we meet and typically exceed them all on our Remote Desktop Services, so that does not appear to be the issue.

So hopefully someone can speak to running Articulate LMS trainings on a Remote Desktop environment or someone maybe has a suggestion on how to optimize the trainings so they'll more easily run in this environment?

Otherwise, we appear to be stuck on how to use this on our LMS for most of our staff.

Hi Rob,

Is it only hotspots that users can't click on within the Remote Desktop Service? It's not a set up we see a lot of as Alyssa mentioned (I can't remember one to be honest, but my memory does often fail me!) - but if the users can click on other items on the course (i.e. player buttons, buttons on the slide like question radio buttons, etc.) could you look at using transparent shapes that you turn into buttons vs. the hotspots? It's entirely a shot in the dark kind of guess...but could be worth testing out a 1-2 slide course to see if that works for those users?  Then you could do the swap throughout the course and republish to your LMS.
